Swine flu case confirmed in WNC

How are the symptoms different from the regular flu? That would be some helpful information to be included in the news article.  (May 13, 2009 | post #3)

School bus route gives historic tour

Wow, what a great story! Thank you, Ms. Davis, for sharing your experiences! I work in a Transportation Department here in WNC and I have great respect for all NC school bus drivers. Thanks, Citizen-Times for printing a great feel-good article!  (May 11, 2009 | post #3)

Killer wins parole for 1984 murder

This is sickening. Any "human" that would beat an 86-year-old man to death should be fried and put UNDER the jail. God help us all.  (May 6, 2009 | post #42)

NC Teachers can't skip classroom days for furloughs

I am a public school employee who is also having to take the pay cut and furlough. I work in an office as part of the support staff and I have family members who are teachers. The bad thing about all this is we are all going backward, not forward, in 2009. All the things that the teachers have fought for-- reduced class size, workdays, salaries up to par with other states in the US, etc.-- are being taken away, just because "someone " in our state government has blown our tax dollars without a care. It is time we fight back NOW, because we can't wait until the next election, but how do we do it?  (May 1, 2009 | post #6)

Health plan bailout passes

I'm just another frustrated employee enrolled in the state health plan. I pay $461 a month for coverage for my spouse. Why, with all the members enrolled in the plan statewide, are family and spouse coverage premiums so ridiculously high? And further increases in deductibles and co-pays will really hurt everyone!  (Apr 23, 2009 | post #6)

Between hot flashes and chills, I may never be nice again

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I am doing very well, and I also understand that your concerns are very valid too. Meno is not fun, but you will make it through fine! I wish you many years of good health! WNC Native, I hope you are doing very well too and may your hot flashes chill very soon! In addition to hot flashes, my worst meno symptom has been heart palpitations, to the point of going to the ER a couple of times, only to find out that thankfully, my heart is fine. I did consult a cardiologist for a complete work-up (always recommended in the presence of palps), and the wonderful doc confirmed that the fluctuation of hormones can indeed cause the irregular heart beats-- like a squirrel running around in your chest! So if you get this, don't freak out too much! Be well, ladies!  (Mar 26, 2009 | post #24)

Governor says he is working with fuel companies

Thank you- you are exactly right! You can bet Easley and Shuler both have plenty of gas to get wherever they need to.  (Sep 24, 2008 | post #9)

Schoolteacher's disappearance remains a puzzle for police

You apparently know Sue Taylor. But I doubt you know the "cowards " you are referring too, so don't you PASS JUDGEMENT on people either! The news story about Ms. Taylor has a lot of holes and makes very little sense to those who have no idea the real story about what happened. They only go by what the newspaper reports. The forum is for people to post opinions about news stories, with anonymity, with any user name they choose. Maybe someone who really knows what happened will inform us. It is hard to "leave someone alone" who disappears under strange circumstances, causes a search, creates worry and alarm in the community, and ends up in the newspaper.  (Aug 19, 2008 | post #82)

Bandits make off with 46 bras

Wow, that's $32.61 per bra! Even Playtex brand bras cost up to $28 a piece now-- ridiculous! I think all men should have to pay a surcharge (bra tax?) since us ladies have the expense of wearing costly underwear and they don't... although I've seen some men that should... LOL  (Aug 14, 2008 | post #31)

Trooper's wife thanks community

What a great response. We will indeed continue to pray for both mom and baby and their entire family. Three years ago, my preemie twin step-granddaughters were in the same unit at Mission, at only a pound each, and they are thriving and well today, thanks to all the technology and advances made, as Genuine Native has pointed out. Keep fighting and we will keep sending prayers and support.  (Jun 27, 2008 | post #2)

Numerous donors aid newborn son, widow of slain trooper

And you, and Linda, and I Believe are being insensitive towards the Blanton family and those trying to help them. Thank you to all those who are being so generous and sincere in helping out Trooper Blanton's family.  (Jun 26, 2008 | post #24)

Numerous donors aid newborn son, widow of slain trooper

Why is she 'correct in questioning the payment from Harrah's and such'? And why is it anyone's place to 'make sure it is used where needed'? I think that is totally up to the family and none of anyone's business. People are helping because there has been a tragedy in this family and have no right or intention to question their financial status or details on how they will use their money. Thank you to all the wonderful people who are helping the Blanton family.  (Jun 26, 2008 | post #16)

Numerous donors aid newborn son, widow of slain trooper

I hope there are many more opportunities to help the Blanton family. This would be a great place to post any fund-raisers and benefit events scheduled for them. May God bless the family as well as those who have helped so generously.  (Jun 26, 2008 | post #12)
