Hold the phone here. Whoever anointed council district 4 as the "black district" ignores the fact that people of many ethnicities live here, including (yes) us tired-ass old out-of-fashion white folks. This statement is racist to its core, just as any white supremacist rant would be. (Aug 9, 2010 | post #1)
Here in my precinct in Baltimore County, we have a handful of coppers with the maturity level of a 14-year-old, but jeez! What does it say about those who were around this kid, that they did not immediately spot him as an imposter? Chicago, Chicago, that toddlin' town... (Jan 26, 2009 | post #216)
How did I EVER grow up and live to the age of sixty without the government protecting me as a child? We drank soda (which was a rare treat in the 1950s, not part of your daily diet) from each other's bottles without wiping them off. Mom cut raw meat on the counter top without hosing it down afterward with bleach, and we even got to eat a bite or two of raw hamburger now and again. Bicycle helmets--underhear d of! Dang, we even played outdoors for hours at a time, UNSUPERVISED. (Jul 22, 2008 | post #202)
TRUE MEANING OF THE ABOVE: The court didn't decide the way I wanted it to go, and I'm going to hold my breath until I turn blue. (Jun 27, 2008 | post #373)
And I have known nearly a dozen murder victims who might be alive today if they'd had the legal right to defend themselves. The factoid about being more likely to be killed by your own gun has long ago been revealed as a falsehood. Check the online news from Australia, England and Scotland to see how well gun control has been working there. The English politicians are now busily enacting laws to deal with what they call the "knife culture," and in the meantime, the yobbos have already discovered that you can as easily stab someone to death with a piece of broken glass as with a knife. What's more interesting is that just as Downing Street started to wail about the need to control the "knife culture" in London, someone was stabbed to death with a shard of broken glass. (Jun 27, 2008 | post #365)
Don't bruise your butt on the turnstile at the airport. (Jun 27, 2008 | post #361)
But a very WEALTHY idiot...With the kind of money he's probably pulling down, he can pay someone to do his heavy thinking for him. (It works for Barbra Streisand, after all.) (Jun 8, 2008 | post #95)
I have serious misgivings about Obama, but they have nothing at all to do with his race. And I also expect that there will be a tiny but troublesome element among US blacks--the few who currently cause so much trouble for their neighbors--who will somehow feel empowered because their "homeboy " is in the White House. Where McCain is concerned, I will never forgive his co-sponsorship of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act. Come November 4, I don't know how I will vote. (Jun 7, 2008 | post #71)
Jerome, The problem with leaving the state because of its oppressive laws is that not everyone who disagrees with those laws has the wherewithal to do it. And the more "good people" leave, the more difficult matters become for those of us who remain. At the age of sixty, I have no desire to incur the debt involved in relocating, much less do the work of sorting and discarding my accumulated junk, or abandoning long-held friendships. No personal criticism intended, but I wonder how much the problems that drive people away could be abated if they put the same energy and funds into staying put and working to change things.
