Mayor Vann is a god

To start off, anytime you fire an employee (Gorum) and only have,"No comment" to reply when asked why he was fired....makes you a spineless piece of shit that can't man up and tell the truth. Moving on to water rates, Baxter even said in print that they don't get a cut in rates. And as far as hiding purchases, that tractor that got burned up at the airport, not one council member knew about until then. You say we need more equipment? Go out and see how many hours are being put on the current equipment and see if you can justify having it. And you must be on well water if you're rates haven't gone up. Magnolia has had a belly full of his antics and I seriously doubt he'll get voted back in.  (Apr 14, 2013 | post #12)

Mayor Vann is a god

1. Gorum would still be chief. 2. Capt. Ferguson would still be here. 3. A balanced budget. 3. Sales tax would not be raised. 4. Water rates would not have increases 30%. 5. SAU wouldn't get charged residential water rates. 6. Unnecessary equipment wouldn't be purchased. 7. New employees wouldn't be hired on at base salaries higher than those they replaced (with less experience and qualifications). 8. Purchases wouldn't be hidden from city council. 9. Business would be done with in town vendors. 10. Wouldn't try to bankrupt the city by trying to clean up old property. Do I need to continue? Next election we'll have a real mayor. Not one with a track record of failure and embarrassment.  (Apr 14, 2013 | post #8)

Mayor Vann is a god

I ready somewhere that he claims to have created 130 jobs since he's been mayor. I'd like someone to list those where exactly all these people were hired on. I know some were at Unit Structure when it reopened, but clueless on the others?? Two more years people, just two more years and we'll have a real mayor in office.  (Apr 13, 2013 | post #5)

Mayor Vann busted by State Auditor

That "do nothing mayor" created jobs and didn't keep things stirred up like Vann. The Sheriff wanted to build on to the county jail to create more room and move central dispatch. At the Quorum meeting only one member had an objection (suprise, ex Rockin PV bartender and lackey David Nelson), at the next meeting they had five people against it. Four of those five were people that Parnell somehow had influence over. Dr. Rankin donated a building at the college to have a more centralized dispatch for the entire county and once again, Parnell killed that plan as well. Making sure that the college paid residential water rates (causing them to go $60,000 over budget) and not getting them a volume discount is sure great for Magnolia! Regardless of what you Parnell fans and the spineless city council thinks, that idiot Vann did do something illegal, no matter how it's down played. When the state auditor finds a problem, it's a problem, and puts the Mayor and the city of Magnolia on their radar. The tension in this town is thick, and everyone knows why. A great leader brings people together, not conquer and divide like a dictator.  (Oct 9, 2012 | post #6)

Mayor Vann busted by State Auditor

The Mayor purchased a truck for $7,500 on April 15, 2011. On June 22, 2011, he donated the truck to the city City (Magnolia) to be used through December 31, 2014, the end of his term as Mayor. The truck was wrecked on October 13, 2011 and on November 3, 2011, the City received insurance proceeds of $10,648. Subsequently, the City paid the Mayor $8,000 for the truck. This transaction appears to conflict the Ark. Code Ann. 14-42-107(b)(1). Ark. Code Ann. 14-42-107 provides that no alderman may have an interest, directly or indirectly in the profits of any contract with the city. (Note that the Arkansas Supreme Court held that 14-42-107 applies to mayors.) And this ladies and gentlemen is just the tip of the iceberg. What else is being swept under the rug?  (Oct 4, 2012 | post #1)

property tax & sales tax

Here we go! Anybody with half a brain in their head knew that once the Purple Villain was able to convince enough people to vote for the sales tax increase that the millage increase would come shortly after. Sam Whitelaw was overheard saying that there would be no millage increase "this" year. Let's recap what a fine job Moron Vann has done so far; increase water rates 30% in the first 6 months of office, purchased police tires out of town, fired the police chief (still no reason), has purchased hundreds-of-thousa nds of dollars of rolling stock, machines and equipment, increased sales tax, hired a new secretary with a starting salary of $49,500 (more than 20 year employee), refused to pay the $33,000 that was owed on 911 equipment, caused problems at central dispatch, caused SAU to go $60,000 over on water budget (charges residential rate, not commercial and who pays for that....SAU students), only charged property owners $300 to clean up old lots and abandoned houses at a cost of over $3000 to the city.....I don't know where to stop. It's quite simple. You've got a man who barely completed high school, no college education, who is morally corrupt and failed at everything he has sat out to do. Business after business that he operated has gone under and yet enough people in this town voted him into office and thought he is capable of running a city and manage money??!!! He was 6 months away from bankruptcy when he got elected, yet qualified to manage our tax dollars?! How many businesses have either moved out of town or shut down since he's been in office? How many jobs has he created? And ask yourself this question, "Is the city of Magnolia better now than it was 2 years ago?" Moron Vann has hurt the people who put him in office the most. Do you think they can afford the increase in water rates? Tax increase? and now staring down the barrel of a millage increase? The answer is "NO". He played those people like a fiddle and continues to used them with no regard to their well being. The city council needs to grow some man size balls (Margie included) and realize you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit!! Two-Six out.............  (Sep 15, 2012 | post #45)

Boycott "Banana-News

Buddy is a good man. Aaron you're a dick for putting that picture on the front. Buddy has contributed more to Magnolia than most. Leave a man with some dignity....or did you not read that in the "Editor for Dummies" book?!  (Jul 3, 2012 | post #3)

Police

Moron Vann fired Gordon Lemons for giving one of his cronie supporters a ticket. Oboma Vann has surrounded himself with people that stroke his ego by not questioning him. Magnolia has one the youngest, most inexperienced police forces in the state. How can you effectively help the city when your one or two veteran officers are baby sitting fresh recruits? Gorum ran a tight ship with a group of officers that respected him and were respected by the community. Now you've got Proctor, a Campaign Promise and a bunch of FNG's protecting our city. Pat yourself on the back Purple Villian you've done such a fine job!  (Jun 27, 2012 | post #6)

Vote No to a sales tax

The city's financial issues are not the county or the state's problem or fault, nor is it the fault of the out of town guest or visitor. Vote the tax down. This falls on the shoulders of the city and it's residents. I own property and I don't want to see a millage increase no more than the next person. I believe the city should take care of its own problems and not beg for spare change from anyone that spends money here. The mayor wants to attract more residents to the city? MEDC (what a crock), wants to attract new business to town? How can you attract either with such a high tax rate? There's an old saying that applies here, "if you plant bad seeds, you'll have a bad crop."  (Jun 24, 2012 | post #15)

Sales tax increase

Folks look how Moron Vann has it set up. If every swinging Dick doesn't pay by increasing taxes he'll penalize only the property owners with a millage increase. Which is taking from the "haves" and giving to the "have nots". Way to go Obama Vann. Riddle me this? Why did I see in the paper the other day a brand new cab and air, four-wheel drive tractor moving brush? Wouldn't a regular backhoe or skid steer have worked just as well? But Moron Vann went and spent another chunk of tax money on a new piece of equipment that we could do without. Y'all drive down to the city yard and see how much new rolling stock and equipment he's bought in the last 18 months. Go ahead and vote yes and continue to watch the wasteful spending continue.  (Jun 24, 2012 | post #35)

Sales tax increase

Moron Vann doesn't want people to know the city paid for it out of the general fund. He caught a ton of flak when he admitted to spending city money on tax signs.  (Jun 20, 2012 | post #25)

Sales tax increase

If this tax goes through, the people of Magnolia should see a line item for every bloody nickel spent by Moron Vann. Don't be surprised if we later find out that he's been skimming money out of the "general fund". I respect a man who doesn't ask for handouts but makes due with what he's got. Moron Vann has been running his office just like Obama....blame the previous administration for all problems, hurt the people that elected him into office the most, try to convert the economy from capitalism to socialism, create zero jobs, increase spending and misallocate vital tax dollars. Would anyone disagree?  (Jun 16, 2012 | post #19)

Sales tax increase

Parnell continues to run this city like the rest of his failed ventures.....betti ng everything on an unforeseeable future. He's already changed how he's gonna spend the tax money he isn't guaranteed. $200,000 to his general "slush" fund, $150,000 to street department, and $150,000 to Fire and Police pension fund. Now he's putting $75,000 toward fire truck and keeping $75,000 to go toward an imaginary police station. Wrap your mind around this: did you know Parnell charged SAU the highest residential water rate possible causing the college to go $60,000 over budget. Unable to absorb the unforseen increase in water rates, SAU had to raise tuition to offset costs. So there you have it, that Purple Headed Yogurt Slinger continues to cripple the city of Magnolia. Keep an eye in every Monday paper, eventually the city of Magnolia will be in the Bankruptcy section!  (Jun 12, 2012 | post #14)

What's up with Magnolia Banner News

Well said Subscriber. It wouldn't surprise me if we found out Jamie Davis was given the choice to resign or be fired. She asked the hard questions that the public needed to know. Morris doesn't have enough sense to get out of the rain! Seriously, a free lance photographer to editor! That's just like Parnell promoting a sergeant to chief of police.........hmmmmmm.  (Jun 4, 2012 | post #28)
