Our black youth are in the mind frame we taught them to be in..We as black people have an obligation to them that we have failed at..We no longer get involved in our communities, some of them have no clue what a family is and others have been hurt and abused that they have the wrong idea about what a family should be. They are alone and afraid but through violence they feel secure and in control. We need to take pride in ourselves so that we can teach our children to have pride in their selves. It is not to late to long as we have breath we are able to correct our behavior and hope for a better future...not hope but build a better future.  (Oct 18, 2008 | post #429)

Remember being a kid and having the square block toy that had all the shapes all over? You spent time trying to put the circle piece in the square space..after finally getting frustrated you take a break, but you come back and you realize you have other options....I guess what I am trying to get at is...we didn't give up, we gained the knowledge that the circle piece will only fit in the circle space and so forth. We applied that knowledge until we had all the pieces in the right place. I think that unity is similar to that...only difference is we are not children, and we do not see anymore with eyes of a child..We somehow have forgotten that we have options, that failure is not the end but an opportunity to find another way.  (Oct 18, 2008 | post #420)

I agree with that statement...Times have changed so much that people are afraid to get involved.  (Oct 18, 2008 | post #378)

I believe RESPECT is not given. I have empathy for anyone who is stuck in a bad situation..because they lack the mind frame that it takes for them to break free..excuses become the reason and motivation for actions..Most have had bad experiences..some worst than others...If you believe that you can't change then you can't change..At some point it becomes personal responsibilty..unt il then we can't unify....The black community has to be torn down and rebuild in order to change the mind frame that we are in..talking has come and gone...OUR youth are the ones on these streets dying and they are being killed by OUR youth...It's time to start yelling.  (Oct 17, 2008 | post #278)

Avp...I kinda disagree...I think before you can rebuild from scratch you have to tear down..Showing someone their faults and letting them know the truth is hard but i think it has to be done in order to rebuild...Like when a person starts to exercise to lose weight..your body tears down in order to rebuild...I think mind frame is sorta like that..Now i don't mean to degrade a person..but it takes a strong person to tear you down then build you up...thats what we need..someone who will not sugar coat and undermind the efforts that it is gonna take to rebuild as individuals and together.  (Oct 17, 2008 | post #257)

Sorry i did not mean my statement to be an insult..truly sorry if i came across that way. I don't think it's that they think their behavior is ok in the sense that it maybe all that, that person knows. An example of this would be the daughter who is on welfare cause her mom was on welfare. No one is born and decides that they wanna sell drugs or gang bang..the lack of something in there lives brought them to that point. If we do not give our children proper guidance then they will not know to do anything different when they are approached by individuals with less then honorable intentions..Personal i think changes start at home. First we have to believe that it's possible before we can get anyone else to believe it.  (Oct 16, 2008 | post #228)
