Yes, I do operate a small business in Vacaville and have been doing so since 1990. Walmart does not engage in my field so they are absolutely no threat to my business model. Their business plan is all about market share, wherever they can get it. They do not specifically target small businesses and do not sell anything at a loss to drive sales. They are able to buy merchandise and considerable discounts due to their quantity buying power though. I have a good friend who is a manager at Walmart and he said that they do not target low end customers, it just kinda works out that way. If you don't buy any produce or meat from a grocery store then where do you get it? I raise my own meat and in season grow loads of vegetables but. I still visit the Raleys meat and produce departments regularly. I have a friend who used to be a meat cutter for Safeway and he told me about an incident where they had a bunch of old whole chickens that had turned yellow and slimy and they washed them in bleach, repackaged them and sold them. I haven't even glanced into a meat case in a Safeway store since. (Yesterday | post #19)
