Meijer interested in Studio 28 site

A Salvation Army location in Wyoming would be nice, but let's be honest here... it hardly the same kind of traffic generator that store like Meijer's is. The 50 to 100 cars a day that the Salvation Army would have brought in is far less then the 1000's of cars that a Meijer store would bring. And again, why bring in a busines where our hard earned money goes out of state? (Wal-Mart) You have an interested business that is a Michigan based business, that money stays here at home. THe PIN is probably the same. Call the UI Help Center (Google Michigan Unemployment Insurance) and the help line number will be located there. They should be able to help you reset your pin to a new number that you can use now. If you don't get through right away, keep calling as long as you can stand pressing the redial function on your phone. You will get through if you are determined.  (Jan 28, 2009 | post #81)

Registering with Michigan Works is a standard requirement although usually they tell you to do so before you have to make your first report to MARVIN. The exeption to this would be if you were recorded as being laid-off and expected to return to your job. Then the Michigan Works requirement is waved. The announcement was probably due to expectations that you would return to work by this time and have not. If you do not register with Michigan Works, you will not receive any more UI checks until you do. My advice is not to wait until the last minute to regiser with Michigan Works. Register early.  (Jan 26, 2009 | post #78)

IF you are set up on their system to get a paper check in the mail that may be why it didn't report a dollar amount. You need to go and change you payment method to either direct deposit or the Pay Card. UI is apparently no longer going to be issuing paper checks. I went for the Direct Deposit as I don't need to carry another plastic card around in my wallet.  (Jan 26, 2009 | post #76)

Your temporary PIN should be the last 4 digits of your social security number. NOT the pin you use to access MARVIN by phone.  (Jan 25, 2009 | post #73)

There are instructions on how to log in to use the UI site for the first time. They should have been on the same page that told you were the link was to access MARVIN online. If you cannot locate this information on the website, call the toll free 866 number listed there for the correct login information to access MARVIN online for the first time. Once you have set up your information, UI will main you a temporary username and password. The first time you log in using this information, it will request a unique username that you will remember along with requesting that you choose a new password. Write them both down and keep them in a safe place. The information that was mailed to you by UI will not work after your personal details have been set up for using MARVIN online.  (Jan 25, 2009 | post #72)

Tiff - Additionally if you were laid off... you are automatically approved for a claim. If the employeer is denying it, then they might be showing you are fired in their records. In which case you have to get the UI Attorney and fight this to the end. If you have a letter from your employer indicating that you were laid-off, include a copy of this in your appeal. This will weigh heavily in YOUR favor. Its a lot of effort but worth it in the long run.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #67)

There is an option for you... First continue to call into MARVIN or make your bi-weekly claims online and do not stop. Second open your yellow pages and look for Unemployment Attorneys. They set up an appointment to discussthe merits of your individual claim. THey work on your behalf to get you the unemployment insurance. The first thing they will tell you is to appeal the denial of claim. Basically this involves writing a letter to UI and exlaining to them why the clim should not be denied. This should basically be an description of why you originally lost your job and why the determnation is incorrect. I had to step through this process. I was able to quote the employee handbook and sie examples of how the rules werenot managed even handedly amongst all the employees. The UI overturned the denial and I did not need the help of the lawyer. If they had denied it again, I would have had to get the lawyer involved. What he does at that point is call for a redetermination hearing. This involves you, the lawyer and the employeer meting at UI offices to have your case heard for redetermination. In almost all cases the employeer DOES NOT show up. It not worth ther time or effort to put in an appearence. This results in an automatic decision in your favor. FOr his efforts on your behalf, the lawyer can claim around 20% of your back UI wages. The remainder comes to you in a lump sum payment. BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP CALLING YOUR REPORTS INTO MARVIN or you won't get a damn thing.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #66)

You cannot file a new claim for the extension until your current benefits have run out. In most cases UI is monitoring your work records for activity... so far I've been eligible for all the extensions while working part time and I've gotten letters automatically telling me to begin calling for the extensions to report my activity for the past two weeks. I have not had to reapply for any of the extensions.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #65)

If you missed your call in week, you need to call the 866 toll free number on the UI website. Or, you need to visit the nearet regional UI office. All the information on locations can be found on their website. Google "Michigan Unemployment" for the link. I had to call in about an error in my payment for this week and got through after about 13 calls in a row. You can get though if you are determined. The website for making bi-weekly claims is up and running and works like a charm.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #64)

2.75 an hour? What Asian countries have you been looking for work in? Unemployment after taxes pays $7.15 an hour... minimum wage is higher than that.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #63)

Another DTV test tonight on WOOD TV8

An additional point that was not made in the preceeding comment, it that a lot of other countries have been HD broadcasting for years. The only ones not broadcasting in this manner are third world countries and the US who is about five years behind the rest of the world.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #23)

Actually you can use the site. After you fill out OR confirm your information, the system gives you a temporary password that is good for ten days so you can use the system immediately. It should have been included in the info when it told you about the password being sent in the mail in the next two weeks.  (Jan 8, 2009 | post #42)

Re-Employed, I agree the system is broken. But they are trying to fix it even its coming in a bit late. Hopefully in the next 30 days these problems will begin to disappear.  (Jan 7, 2009 | post #38)

Lorri, its obviously frustrating to anyone who is trying to use the system and can't get through. The thing you have to remember is that they are tying to implement changes but they can't happen with a snap of the fingers. Changing the phone interface to handle more callers takes time and involves the installtion of additional phone lines. All expensive and time consuming tasks. And one that could not have been forseen a year ago. They have also added the ability to use MARVIN over the internet (which I used for the first time this morning and it worked great for me). A tremendous time saver compared to the five minutes you spend on the phone when reporting in that way. The regional offices and help lines are hiring more service people to handle the calls (again a time consuming process between the application and interview process and again adding all those additional phone lines for the operators). They can't happen overnight. But they are trying. The problem that comes into play in the future is that they will also have to scale these operations back when things finally turn around. Removing the phone lines is just as expensive as putting them in. They have to balance current and future needs in making all these decisions. For anyone who thinks that the people at UI have it easy guess again. Between the angry phone calls, the angry e-mails and the angry people showing up in the regional offices, I'm frankly surprised anyone turns up for work knowing what they will have to face on any given day. Instead of seeing everything in a negative light, try being thankful that someone is around to help resolve any of these problems at all. I noticed in postings earlier that some folks waited 15 minutes to make a call after they couldn't get through the first time. That was a serious mistake. If the line is busy redail the number immediately. Keep redialing until you get through. Making 4 attempts in an hour is hardly admirable. If this check is as important as some people say, folks would really maximize their time and call that line 60 times in an hour. If you don't get through, call in on the free for all days Thursday and Friday. People can call in at anytime on Thursday and Friday. And don't give up on the onlive version either. I used it today and it was effortless. Just be sure to set up your account.  (Jan 7, 2009 | post #37)
