50s Fords Haul Moonshine To Quench The Devil's Thirst: Th...

Bill, would you be willing to share a copy of the photo of the car? There is much debate over the fate of this '51. I've spoken with Barry who purchased the car in 1960 and I also have a lead on where the car is today. I still continue to gather info and photos on anything pertaining to the movie. Local residents have been a great help. I hope to visit Asheville this summer. I do know that Pender Fox was the fellow who built the 312 engine for the car originally.  (Jun 15, 2015 | post #47)

Dan, what can you tell me about the '51? Are you willing to share those pics? I recently was given an email addy of the guy who supposedly has the car now in Cali but have not tried to contact him yet. I've done a lot of research on this movie and the car. Many stories floating around about the fate of the car and most prove false.  (Mar 2, 2014 | post #35)

The majority of Thunder Road was filmed in Asheville. Other parts were over in the Reems Creek area of Weaverville and also at Toxaway Falls. The movie was made entirely in North Carolina. Also, the engine in the '51 Ford was in fact a 312 Ford. The Mitchum's took this car back to California with them after the movie was completed.  (Jun 5, 2013 | post #31)

Liz, can you provide more info on the '51? The car originated from the Asheville area before filming of Thunder Road.  (Jun 5, 2013 | post #30)
