Gender Discrimination in the Workplace: The Belmont Abbey Case

I was surprised last time when no comments were posted regarding this enlightening article.  (5 hrs ago | post #1)

ATT Uverse and Selfish Belmont

nope. not me. I don't own any property in Belmont. I agree COMPLETELY with competition. I don't buy any of the TV stuff. I use an outside antennae. Nothing to pay for each month. Watching TV does not interest me much. What I was trying to say is let ATT buy/lease a corner and install its equipment. If I remember correctly the property in question was on Todd Street. Why did ATT not move a block down to where Shirley's restaurant and place the equipment there?  (5 hrs ago | post #10)

Belmont New Years Downtown

you seemed to miss the point. whiney bard is against it so the ENTIRE town MUST be against it. He speaks for all the people. hahahaahahhahahaha hahaa. whew. hurt myself laughing. OK. We have a disagreement. Some folks don't like alcohol at these events. Some do. You can buy all the property in downtown and move out all these greedy sinful merchants (trying to be sarcastic) or you can elect folks to make the change. I don't see either of those happening.  (5 hrs ago | post #44)

ATT Uverse and Selfish Belmont

if a utility consumes 20% of of a small property, it does make it unuseable when you consider zoning restrictions. Check the laws, setback requirements and such. And if you knew the law you would know that once a utility has a right of way on a property NOTHING of a permanent nature can be built on that right of way. If ATT truly wanted to exist in Belmont they could purchase all the property they need to install what they need. Again, I don't consider a property owner standing up for his own rights as being selfish. But then again, I am from here.  (23 hrs ago | post #8)

THANK YOU DOWNTOWN merchants. What a nice thing to do. It also stated in the same article that profits are used for scholarships for South Point students. But I guess these events are just so WRONG they should be stopped. NAH... lets have more.  (23 hrs ago | post #37)

I believe if you check your facts you will find that the people who did not want the utility to install something on his property that would make it unsaleable. I would do the same. If a utility wants to utilize my property, then they should pay for. Just ANYONE who wants to use my property will do. It is not selfish, it is called standing up for your rights as a property owner.  (Friday | post #6)

At any event that is offered FOR FREE you have the privilege of attending and not drinking a drop. MANY people attend and don't drink. It is an individual choice just as it should be.  (Friday | post #30)

it seems that many folks who post here are very close minded and have tunnel vision. Have you noticed that? It seems any action that does not follow their beliefs is sinful, anti-american and unlawful. Must be democrats. GREAT that a New Years celebration was on MAIN STREET in Belmont. GREAT they closed the street down and had a party. Life is coming back to the little town. Ain't it great.  (Thursday Dec 31 | post #16)

Belmont's Drug Problem

The very best thing you can do to help alleviate the problem is to report what you see. The more people step up and tell police what is happening the sooner it will stop. And as you can tell from the prior posting some people who use Topix partake in heavy doses of illegal substances. Alcohol can be legally purchased. The use of anything, in excess, is bad for you. Food in excess is bad for ya. So get involved, report what you see that is going on. WRITE down that tag number. You have cameras on your cell phone. Take pictures and pass them along to police.  (Tuesday Dec 29 | post #12)

Illegal Immigrant Workers

But the trial for that is coming soon. I think January 20th... so maybe we will have a new president after that if he still can't produce his birth certificate.  (Monday Dec 28 | post #21)

Why Did "Old Belmont" Fail?

Actually back in the 80's the Federal government offered grants to allow any county to implement county wide water and sewer. Our wonderful politicians at the time did not think this was a good idea. So THAT is why Gaston County is behind. The feds no longer offer these grants for such things. York County SC actually has almost completed county wide water, sewer and natural gas lines. And the gas company is a county owned co-op running from government grants. (as best I understand). A good start would be to have the county run a large east-west water line across three sections of the county. North, middle (85 corrider) and south. From these three main feeder lines, other North-South lines could be installed. Just having fire hydrants around the county would save us all on fire insurance.  (Thursday Dec 24 | post #17)

Why Did "Old Belmont" Fail?

Somebody get busy trying to recruit a company for Belmont that is a large user of water or get Belmont to start selling water to both Gaston and Mecklenburg county. How about the Belmont bottled water company? The Abbey is selling bottled water, why not Belmont.  (Thursday Dec 24 | post #15)

Why Did "Old Belmont" Fail?

Would you mind pointing out those bad changes? I NEVER expect anyone to just go along. Fight for what you think is right. I am not saying that I agree with all the changes, but I am interested in hearing about things that people think were bad choices.  (Thursday Dec 24 | post #12)

Why Did "Old Belmont" Fail?

who says old Belmont failed? I say it has changed with the times. You can't have a town that still lives in the 50's and continues to grow. But I am sure someone will determine a way for that to happen and tell me about it here. I wish it could stay the same, but it can't. So get involved and help direct the changes or sit back and do nothing and complain about the changes after they occur.  (Wednesday Dec 23 | post #7)
