East Berlin says candidate owes back taxes

Well I certainly did not ask Schlaline and Phillips to stalk me and to tresspass on private property were my son, daughter-in-law and grandson live. And yes, going onto a private right-a-way to take pictures is tresspassing. If they had bothered to come to me and discuss the matter, I would have probably explained the presonal reasons why I changed my address in 2009. I may have even shown they around the warehouse and they could have seen for themselves what repairs I was doing to the building. All they knew was that I was having construction supplies and insulation delivered here and they assumed that I was building an illegal apartment instead of the repairs that are being made to the existing walk-in cooler. Since then, I have shown the original plans (dated 1975) to two borough council members. All amenities are on the original plans and have been in this building since 1976. I have also been advised to go after Schlaline and Phillips for stalking and tresspassing as well as for the cost of my attorney that represented me at the hearing, since they lost the case. However, I am trying to take the high road on this situation and concentrate on the election and the issue at hand that face this borough. The so-called back taxes that I owe are approximately $227.00. Not a big issue. And for the record, Mr Richards has never asked me about my accountant.  (Apr 12, 2011 | post #42)

Losing the stars above us

Actually, the Evening Sun is a little behind on the news. At the last Borough Council meeting it was decided that they would have Met-Ed change the bulbs from 250 watts to 150 watts which may save some money without endangering the people of the town.  (Mar 23, 2011 | post #5)

East Berlin plans new water meters

Schaline and Chuckie Phillips are both running, however last I heard, Woodward, Richards and Clayton are not running. Phillips and Schaline changed their party affiliate from Democrat to Republican. Also running is Tina Gulan (D), Butch (Charles) Krall (R), Jim LaVan (R) and Robbie Teal (R) for a total of six canidates. And yes, anyone of these last four people mention will work very well with the other three on the council. It should be interesting.  (Mar 14, 2011 | post #5)

East Berlin plans new water meters

"It's a nice idea, but I think it costs too much," said authority member David Richards, the lone dissenting vote. "You're looking at a large amount of money, and quite frankly, East Berlin doesn't have the money." Oh, so now you are concerned about cost Mr. Richards? What about the $228,000.00 you and the borough council wasted on fighting with the town's businesses? You know, the same businesses that are the tax base of the town. And of course because of the cost of electricity you now want to turn off every other street light so the town can afford it's electric bill. Get real. I am looking forward to this new technology. I hate going into that corner of my basement to read the meter every quarter because it's nothing more than a glorified crawspace.  (Mar 11, 2011 | post #3)

Overlooked reason to train

I'm so sorry for this sad time in your life. I have two malinios, my girl is a retired show dog, and my male is still showing. They have both gone through obedience training and are the loves of my life. But they are not the type of dog I would recommend for the first time dog owner or someone who doesn't have much experience with dogs. I hope everything works out well with your malinios. Best of luck and prayers.  (Mar 3, 2011 | post #2)

Council to turn back lights?

I disagree with that statement. There are some people on the borough council that have more than a ounce of common sense and integrity. The problem is that they are always outvoted 4-3 by Richards, Clayton, Woodward and Phillips. It is very troublesome to me to see the street lights that are malfunctioning and to hear that those four, and you can believe it's those four, want to endanger the citizens of this town by turning off more lights. Their job on the council is to help improve the town. Not waste money fighting with business owners over smoke from a cooker as a sign, or a patriotic sign hanging on a building in a back alley, or causing the loss of jobs at local businesses during a recession. These things will be remembered at the next election and things will change.  (Mar 1, 2011 | post #13)

East Berlin group plans hydrant meeting

Do you remember the story of Peter and the Wolf. About the young boy who yelled "Wolf!" when there wasn't any to many times just for the attention? And then when there was one, no one came to help. Well that's what John is doing. If he had bothered to check with the Water Authority, he would have been informed that there is a 10 year plan in place to replace and repair the hydrants. He caused such an uproar that after his meeting, there was one citizen who came after a volunteer firefighter and told him she couldn't understand the fire companies' attitude about not fixing the hydrants and keeping the town's people safe. She honestly believed, after sitting in that meeting, that the fire company was responsible for the hydrands. This misinformation coming from a "he's helping you folks. . ." person is not the help this town needs. Misinformation, incorrect infomation and not checking for the correct information is the same as crying "Wolf!". So if or went the time comes that a wolf appears, no one will listen.  (Feb 28, 2011 | post #16)

Just looking out for town's hydrants

True. Next it will be the flashing street lights or the ones that are burned out and how they are a danger to the citizens of East Berln. LOL  (Feb 23, 2011 | post #7)

SPCA seizes dogs

I have Belgain Malinois. What most people (who don't know dogs) think are funny looking German shepards. They are intelligent, loyal, willing to please and have a wonderful temperment. Couldn't ask for a better breed in my humble opinion.  (Feb 23, 2011 | post #71)

SPCA seizes dogs

Thank you. As a person who has bred and sold pure bred dogs I can tell you that the puppies I've sold had all their shots, AKC papers, and a health certificate from my vet. They were kept in my home and I had even started to house train them before they went to their new homes. Each prospective buyer was interviewed and if for any reason things it did not work out with the puppy, I bought it back. My dogs are champion show dogs and are only bred every 2-3 years, not every 6 months. Not all breeders run puppy mills.  (Feb 23, 2011 | post #66)

Love this rely. And don't forget, it was our current President that said he has visited all 57 states when he was campaigning. LOL  (Feb 11, 2011 | post #34)

East Berlin ends agreement with special counsel

I agree with all of the above. The article says that a total of $18,883.00 of the $22,000.00 budgeted for this year has already been spent on legal fees. Didn't Richards say in previous newspaper articles that this Tucker/Hog Wild debacle was close to ending and no more money would be spent? What if Tucker wins his case in court? Are they going to waste more money to fight on an appeal? And where do they think this money comes from. . .trees?  (Jan 25, 2011 | post #5)

What time is the meeting suppose to start incase the public would like to attend? That is a vital piece of information that is missing.  (Jan 22, 2011 | post #2)

Water rate going up

I think the growth the person was talking about was business growth. There has to be a balance between the growth of business and rural/historical protection of the town. And the answer is not to try and run businesses out of town. How many businesses have left, closed or layed off people in town this past year?  (Jan 14, 2011 | post #9)
