UConn Mold Battle Tallies Nearly $225,000
The housekeeping is what really cracks me up. Renovate all you want - hopefully it will just add to the equity of the property. But housekeeping services? For 2 grown adults? WITH NO CHILDREN LIVING IN THE HOME??? I don't know what the presidents wife does for a living, but it sure must be awfully time consuming if she can't even manage to clean her own dayum house. UConn Mold Battle Tallies Nearly $225,000
"The university plans to use the Oak Hill Road building as classroom space and room for other functions for faculty and students." I love how the building is good enough for students and faculty - but not the head honcho. How much will the lawsuit cost us when a student or faculty member sues for getting sick after attending a function there? (Jun 13, 2008 | post #10)
Prosecutors Vow To Retry Wilcox After Insurance Fraud Mistrial
Whoa nelly - are you for real???? This man lost everything because he operated his business shoddily. The road was only dangerous for vehicles that were not functioning properly. The malfunctioning of the truck that day was due to it not being properly maintained. I'll admit the state can be harsh when it has a bug up it's butt about annoying someone, but this guys company had an extensive collection of violations on multiple trucks that simply couldn't have been incurred if he was "working hard for all his life" at his business. Prosecutors Vow To Retry Wilcox After Insurance Fraud Mistrial
According to previous articles - the insurance policy was cancelled by Wilcox and his company was issued a check to return funds they had previously paid. Being in the construction industry myself, I can honestly say I don't know of any reputable company that cancels their insurance mid-policy unless they are switching companies. Certainly for a lot of work we do insurance in all forms (i.e. workers comp, auto, etc..) is required just to get on site and work. And I personally feel that when you willfully ignore the maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle(s) you own (this goes for civilians and corporations alike) and a crash occurs - it should not be termed an "accident ". John M: Why do you EXPECT all these people to tip you???? Apparently I'm missing something. I don't care if someone gambles $5.00 or $50,000.00, it is their money they earned it and can do whatever they feel they need to with it. You are doing your JOB by dealing or working a table or whatever - why do you EXPECT to receive a tip for that? (May 21, 2008 | post #33)

Personally - I think they should get what they earn individually. You complain about people not getting their fair share, but lets say I was at Foxwoods gambling and I had a snotty dealer so I went to another table and had a great dealer - when I leave my tip I am leaving it for the great dealer I had - certainly I don't want it to get pooled and spent on the snotty dealer. Knowing the tips are pooled makes me much less likely to leave a tip at all. However, with that being said, I can understand that certain tables by their nature will generate higher tips and I can see how pooling would be beneficial to the guys at the cheap tables. First off - its BECKIE not becky. Secondly - We all want better insurance options! Heck I pay for all my dental out of pocket because my company doesn't offer it. But you know what, I manage because not every aspect of my life is the responsibility of my employer. Thirdly - If you wanted the protection of the State perhaps you shouldn't have taken up employment in a Sovereign Nation. Fourth - Why should people out on sick or vacation time reap the rewards from people who came in and did their job????? Honestly, this really irks my nerves. While I can understand and even sympathize when it comes to insurance issues, the fact that you feel Jane Doe is entitled to tips when she didn't show up and work really really really bothers me. Waitresses don't get a share of tips when they take a day off, neither do bartenders or bus boys(girls) or barbacks. Know why? BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T THERE TO EARN THEM! Tips are something earned - not entitled. If you don't see that then surely it is you that has your head buried deeply in the sand. (May 20, 2008 | post #24)

It's not discrimination if you have a medical illness that's a liability. If he has a seizure when he's alone and no one finds his body in time and he dies - who is to blame? If he cracks his head open falling to the ground from a seizure and bleeds out before anyone finds him - who is to blame? And please - pretty pretty please - don't reply with "it's no ones fault" because we ALL know that's not how it would play out if it actually happened. People want the right to sue - and they should have it - this is America after all. But since we all want the right to sue - employers have to be ten thousand times more careful about who they hire. Cause and effect baby. (May 19, 2008 | post #20)

Wow. So all this nonsense is about money that you aren't even guaranteed???? Not because you aren't making a fair wage, not because you are denied benefits, not even because you are not allowed time off (paid) to deal with life issues - but because the tips that people may or may not (and by the way are soooo not obligated to) leave will be disbursed the same way they are now??? Just. Wow. (May 19, 2008 | post #19)
Union Seeks Permit For Foxwoods Protest
If you weren't getting a fair shake why did you take the job in the first place? Do you make a decent hourly wage? Do you have medical insurance? Do you have dental? Considering that the only thing anyone here has complained about is a higher hourly wage - which by the way EVERYONE who works wants - why should I feel sorry for the employees of the casino???????? I want a raise too - but I'm not going to strike or picket my job. That's certainly not going to earn me any brownie points with my boss. Employment is about more than an hourly wage. Are you able to take time off to see the doctor without getting fired? Are you able to call out and stay home with a sick kid without getting fired? (May 19, 2008 | post #56)

While the murders/suicides don't make the nightly news, word gets around. I've known about the extremely high suicide rate at both casinos for years now. Imagine though, if every incident was on the nightly news. How many more people would be out of jobs if people stopped going to the casinos because of all the suicides? From the tone of your post, you simultaneously want Foxwoods to pay higher wages and benefits to their employees, while broadcasting locally and nationally about the very things that would discourage customers from coming in and spending money and boosting the revenue that would make it possible for raises and more benefits. What kills me about your post, and so many others, is how shocked and astonished you are that Foxwoods is running itself like a business. Attempting to make as much profit as possible while keeping their expenses as low as possible. How dare they! (May 16, 2008 | post #53)

Are all those casinos located on tribal land too? While I don't dispute that unions can be helpful to some, I definitely feel that in this instance the UAW stepped in over the line. If the casinos are located on tribal land and not subject to federal/state laws because they are owned by a tribe, who is the union to step in and claim Foxwoods should be running their business a certain way? On a semi-separate note - why exactly are they protesting? (May 14, 2008 | post #32)

Bullspit Bullspit Bullspit!! No wonder so many people could care less about breaking the law. If your crime warrants 20 years then you should do it. Period. End of story.
