Nice, France seems indifferent to Brangelina

I was in Nice for a week or so. The people were pretty much indifferent to me too. It is nice to know I was treated as well as some of Hollywood's elite.  (17 hrs ago | post #5)

Companies begin quest for oil, gas off Florida

From the Green Guide: As summer vacationers flock to the beaches to enjoy the sun, saltwater and sand between their toes, some disturbing facts linger: Each year an estimated 14 billion pounds of trash are dumped into the world's oceans. Plastics now make up 90 percent of all floating marine debris, and most of it originates from land. Plastic bags, bottle caps, cigarette butts, food packaging and other waste ends up choking, poisoning or blocking the digestive tracts of sea birds, turtles and other marine animals who mistake it for food. Shrimp and fish ingest particle-sized plastic bits that resemble plankton. According to researchers at the Algalita Marine Research Foundation in Long Beach, California, there is some level of plastic in all of the seafood we eat. Petroleum-based plastic contains suspected hormone-disrupting chemicals that leach out into substances it comes in contact with. It also absorbs toxics such as PCBs and pesticides, and can transport these chemicals via sea currents to shores where they are leached out again. And the problem isn't getting smaller: Algalita researchers are currently studying a "garbage patch" in the Pacific Ocean that is twice the size of Texas and growing by the minute. Now tell me.... how can drilling off shore pose any more of a danger than this litter? Let 'em drill and the rest of us can maybe afford to concentrate on getting rid of the rest of the crap that poses a world wide threat.  (Friday Jul 4 | post #6)

Surprising fact: Half of gun deaths are suicides

I can relate... I had a situation late last year where a loose lipped neighbor invited his convict son to check out the gun cabinet I built. The neighbor had seen it on an occasion when he and his wife had dinner with me. The convict son was on parole for burglary...he broke in to a house and stole firearms. To say that I experienced a big does of paranoia is an understatement. I now have a large gun safe in my closet, bolted to the wall and floor, from the inside. My guns are locked up when I am not home, and the key to the gun safe is locked in another safe. When I am home, I have a Kimber Custom II loaded with MagSaf rounds and Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 magnum with the same loads at hand. Am I happy with that situation? No, not really. That's partly why I moved away from Illinois. However, Alabama has a Castle Law and I will not be a victim if I can help it.  (Wednesday Jul 2 | post #191)

James Pope was sentenced to 4,060 years in prison for sexually ...

The guy is never going to be able to pay the fine. If Texas were to pay for my gas round trip, and provide me with immunity for my actions, I'd gladly drive down there and save the Texas taxpayers the cost of supporting him until he dies. I'd not be at all merciful about it either.  (Wednesday Jul 2 | post #1)

Solution, or Mess? A Milk Jug for a Green Earth

Thank you. No Publix stores in this area but I was able to order a case on line. I'll use it mainly for baking, so I can freeze most of it. Back in the "old days" I'd have just made a run to the grocery store, but that costs $8 these days. I only go once month or so now.  (Wednesday Jul 2 | post #7)
