White borrowers with "similar incomes"? What about credit score, amount of assets, time on the job, etc.? If all of those factors were also similar, I would say you may have something there. But this smells like a publicity stunt.  (Aug 1, 2009 | post #3)

Obama says some Americans would not be covered under his ...

Okay, so the people who opt out because they think they're indestructible...the President should say they will not get treatment under any circumstances.  (Jul 22, 2009 | post #2)

Alfonso Soriano upset over latest benching

Soriano finally shows his true colors. What an incredible waste of $136 million. He is utter garbage.  (Jul 8, 2009 | post #31)

Chicago White Sox top Chicago Cubs 4-1

Soriano should be wearing a mask every time he comes to the plate. I pray there is some contractual detail that will allow the Cubs to void his contract. Unfortunately the window on this team is shutting fast. And thanks to the back loaded contracts we are stuck with, we are due for many years of mediocrity.  (Jun 17, 2009 | post #57)

In bankruptcy, GM given a fighting chance, analysts say

Give me a break. The UAW didn't make any concessions. They pay a whopping $25 per month for family health insurance, and they get free legal services for life. They didn't have their wages or retirement benefits reduced AT ALL. It's easy to help a company's financial situation when you basically steal $27 billion from bondholders. Now that GM doesn't have to make interest payments for that debt, it's no surprise things are temporarily better. But this will end badly.  (Jun 2, 2009 | post #7)

Cubs' Gatorade dispenser designated for assignment

Carlos Zambrano is a LOSER. We are paying $18 million a year for someone who is 3-2 (projected 10-6 for the year) with an ERA over 4 and a WHIP of 1.45. No matter what anyone says, he is no better than a #2 or 3 starter. PERIOD. He is a perfect example of what is wrong with baseball and with society.  (May 31, 2009 | post #50)

Cubs sale complicated by broadcast contracts

We always knew it was a shell game. There is no possible way that White Sox broadcast rights would be worth significantly more than those of the Cubs. The Cubs lowered them artificially to lower the amount they paid to MLB for revenue sharing. And they continue to do the same thing with their ticket broker business. They declare the tickets' face value to MLB, and then sell the ticket for 5x or 10x as much through their scalping operation.  (May 31, 2009 | post #21)

Democrats walk tightrope over budget, elections

I've been saying something similar...that the news anchors should say "3 thousand million" when referring to 3 billion, or "3 thousand billion" (or even "3 million million") when referring to 3 trillion. We have been so desensitized to the hugeness, it would bring back a sense of perspective to break it down a bit.  (May 30, 2009 | post #101)

Democrats walk tightrope over budget, elections

No, Richard. NO, NO, NO. This is a rise in the rate from 3% to 5%, which is indeed a 67% increase. That is the most accurate way to report and portray it, and kudos to the Trib for telling it like it is.  (May 30, 2009 | post #89)

Democrats walk tightrope over budget, elections

The problem is that we have reached the point of no return with respect to the voting populace. The majority of voters now pay little or no income taxes, and their numbers are growing. And politicians, whether Stroger, Quinn, or Obama, will chase the votes even if it means destroying capitalism or breaking bankruptcy laws to appease the unions. We are in full class warfare mode now.  (May 30, 2009 | post #83)

Give me a break...there are plenty of idiotic decisions that Springfield has made that affect the Chicago area alone -- one example being the program to give senior citizens free CTA rides.  (May 30, 2009 | post #75)

"Most states have a sales tax right around Illinois'...around 6%. So you're wrong there." Last I checked, the sales tax in Cook County, by far the most populous county in Illinois, was over 10%.  (May 30, 2009 | post #63)

Clueless posts such as yours show a basic ignorance of the overall tax system. States with higher income taxes generally have MUCH lower property and sales taxes. We don't.  (May 30, 2009 | post #42)
