LOLOL!! Thanks for that synopsis of genesis! I think you did a splendid job of getting the gist of it correctly. Maybe not the details..but most certainly the over-all picture! That story has holes in it big enough to drive a truck through. Just remember it's a MYTH. You aren't REALLY supposed to believe it...literally. If Adam and Eve had truly gotten knowledge by *eating the apple* then they should have been smart enough to tell Yahweh to get lost, stayed in the Garden and moved on to snack on the Tree of Life. I have no feelings for you one way or the other. I don't know you well enough for that. As for Christians in general, I have many as friends... and I have met a few that I can't stand to be around. But that is typical of ALL groups of people. It has nothing to do with their spiritual beliefs...usually. Why would I think that you are "encouraging things like rape etc." I never said anything to that effect. Since you have no knowledge of my upbringing, why would you say I "herd" it growing up? Being a decent human being is not based on *opinion.* It is founded on the fact that we are all in this TOGETHER. If I cause harm to someone else, it hurts me also....BECAUSE WE ARE CONNECTED. 1) Please tell me which law is based on "have no other gods before me?" Directly contradicting that is the one that insures freedom of speech AND THE FREEDOM TO WORSHIP as one chooses does.... NOT requiring me to worship the Christian deity. (2) Which law says ANYTHING about idol worship? (3) Which law makes "taking the lord's name in vain" unlawful? (4) Which law makes working on Sunday (or whatever your *holy* day is) a stoning offense? (5) Which law says that you MUST honor your father and mother? (6) Murder? Ok, you get that one. (7) Adultery? Most, if not all, of those laws no longer exist. It became obvious you can't legislate morality. (8) Steal? Ok, you get that one. (9) "Bearing false witness?" You can lie all you want about someone..and they have the right to sue you if it is slanderous. However, lying on the witness stand in court IS against the law. You might get 1/2 for that one. LOL! (10) Coveting? No law against that. You can think about wanting someone else's stuff all you want to...just don't try to steal it. So, you get 2.5 out of 10. I have read many ignorant statements on Topix, but that one may be the all time winner. In this country, LAWS come from society...not religion. They help insure that we live together as peacefully as possible, insuring stability and order. If you want to have LAWS and RELIGION to be the same, go live in Iraq or Iran. This country was founded by more enlightened folk. I am a pagan witch. I do not steal, kill, assault, lie (as in *bearing false witness* kind of lying), or otherwise try to harm my fellow human beings. How can that be, according to you? As I said, they were trying to control their world. 2000 years later, WE should be more intelligent than that.
