The show's over for AMC on Pine

All I hear about Pine Square is the "patrons " commentary with the movie. Was it really that common?  (Dec 2, 2010 | post #10)

Passenger ejected, killed in Gerald Desmond Bridge accident

Wheres the part where the Police believe they were fleeing from a hit and run? Its says that in the Captions in the Photo Gallery. Once again clear and ground breaking journalism from the PT  (Dec 1, 2010 | post #31)

Bank's gift is loss of home

I really have to disagree with you. Your info is partially right however, Most of Long Beach Slummy areas were in the Low 100's and high 90k in the early 1990's. My parents bought their home in 1991 and paid $150,000 and overpaid. Appraisals performed for for my parents in 1992 to 94 showed that they overpaid upwards to $50,000. For a 3 Bedroom 1200 sq ft home in the Poly High Area. This was probably also the last area of Long Beach that the prices ballooned like the way they did. This story has many holes.... You can tell in the sloppy journalism in the fact that don't even live on Daisy Ave. also Their home was sold for $186,957 on 9/30/2010.  (Nov 25, 2010 | post #11)

Wetlands restoration ordered

What are the Coastal Commission's qualifications? Reading their bios, they are mostly career politicians and lawyers. There are only two that actually have degrees in Biology, one in environmental science. Thats 3 out of a 12 member voting panel that is suppose to know what they are actually doing for the environment.  (Nov 20, 2010 | post #40)

Why don't you just tear down all those homes, they were obviously built on former wetland.  (Nov 20, 2010 | post #5)

Once a marshland now a landfill. Its a gassy landfill, that liability alone makes it not worth dealing with. Even if he was allowed to build at that site, he would have to install a methane collection and venting system along with re-compacting the land to make it even usable. Just an extra million dollars here and there. The city of Carson is basically a city built on a huge landfill, to the point that the city cannot have tall buildings in some areas due the cost to reclaim the land especially near the 405. Sean Hitchcock really got screwed in this whole deal, he should just walk away from it and tell the Cal Coastal Comm where they could put those native plants.  (Nov 20, 2010 | post #4)

Long Beach city services' technology on fritz

It takes time to put a system like that back online. I was up at about 3am using the city's site then, it went down. Laymen don't understand that the system has to troubleshot, repaired, and reseted. Given that they fixed the problem in less than 12 hours is actually a great sign, especially when the downtime began overnight. Troubleshooting a network that large requires highly skilled people and just thank god they have them. Information Networks in general have little in redundancies went talking past power. Eventually everything has to pass through a single device, wire, fiber optic, or antenna. Any "backup systems" wouldn't technically be fail safe as they would need a person to activate and operate it. Verizon not to long ago lost all phone and 911 service to the whole south bay because of a simple piece of hardware failed, which had a fairly high reliability rate. It just happens.  (Nov 19, 2010 | post #19)

Did anyone catch the part that said it was actually classified as a wetland? cause its not. The California Coastal Commission is probably the biggest group of brain dead do-gooders next to the California Air Resources board, These two organizations are probably the most business unfriendly boards in North America.  (Nov 19, 2010 | post #1)

Condo tenants sue LB over flooding

Well this is going to get thrown out because the County of LA manages all storm water infrastructure, and they are not named in the suit. I live on a side of long beach where a new system was installed and manhole covers literally flew in to the middle of the street when that downpour happened. That was an extreme amount of water and no amount of drainage is going to help a poorly designed building. My backyard was about 2.5 to 3 feet under water, and my basement was flooded with about 4 feet of water, but that's my fault because my property is poorly graded and trapped water I didnt do anything about it. I had to pump out about 30 to 40 thousand gallons of water out over the course of 12 hours, and the same think happened back in '94. Wasn't there FEMA cash available for this?  (Nov 12, 2010 | post #1)
