I don't think anyone is implying that police officers are gods. The fact that he was doing the job that got him killed is what makes it so tragic. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that your job doesn't involve going into potentially high risk situations every time you deal with a client. You know, I was working Saturday night, and I was on a traffic stop when I heard the BOLO go across the radio. In an instant, my stomach dropped, my heart started racing and my blood began to boil, all at the same time.(I didn't even find out succumbed to his injuries until 2 hours later) At that moment, nothing was more important to me than finding this guy who had shot one of my brothers in blue. It made me feel a little better when they got him, but let a lot of unanswered questions. It doesn't make any sense to me how a situation escalates from an M-1 OVI to an F-1 Aggravated Murder of a Peace Officer. Even in a criminal's mind, how does that make sense? Why do minorities die so young?
As ignorant as that posters comment was, I see where he's going with it and it makes sense. People who live the "gangsta " or "wannabe gangsta" lifestyle, go all out. They eat extremely unhealthy, don't exercise, and ingest a lot of impurities into their bodies. Bottom line is, no matter how good health care is, if you don't put forth any effort yourself, it's going to do no good. It's the common mentality of the poverty stricken minority, let someone else work for you while you reap the benefits. Obviously that doesn't go for EVERY minority, but it does describe quite a few. Statistically, non-minorities are more well to do than minorities are. That being said, I'd be willing to bet you would get the same percentage of mortality if you polled the poor vs the rich. One has nothing to do with the other. My opinion is just that, you certainly don't have to agree with it. I rather enjoy good debates. One side shows his or her views, and the other side does the same. I can appreciate your ability to hold a good arguement, as I believe I can do the same. Worst case scenario, we both open our minds to different ways of looking at a certain subject. Not an attack on either side. You might be suprised Duke, I agree with you on alot of issues, but there are some I feel I need to hold my ground on....DUI's being one of them.
