Swiss ban on minarets is pure discrimination
Some interesting info regarding Minarets: http://www.answers .com/topic/minaret History The earliest mosques were built without minarets, the adhan (call to prayer) was performed elsewhere; hadiths relay that the Muslim community of Madina gave the call to prayer from the roof of the house of Muhammad, which doubled as a place for prayer. Around 80 years after Muhammad's death the first known minarets appeared... and also from the link ... (as there are many reference via this link) is this information: Mideast & N. Africa Encyclopedia: Minaret Tower associated with a mosque. The minaret has been used for centuries by muezzins (Arabic mu'adhdhinun, Muslim criers) for the call to daily prayers, but its original use is unclear. The earliest mosques in Arabia had no minaret, and the first towers in seventh-century Cairo (Egypt) and Damascus (Syria) may not have been built expressly for the call. Minarets have been designed in many styles over time and space. Early ones were often square or octagonal, some with winding exterior staircases, while the sixteenth-century Ottomans built needle-thin, cylindrical minarets with conical peaks. Today, the muezzin does not always climb the minaret to call for prayers; minarets are often outfitted with loudspeakers. Switzerland is only 41'285 square kilometers of land (equals to 15'940 sq miles) in size ... yet has already 200 mosques.... and only 4 of them have minarets.... so that equates to one mosque every 79.7 miles or every 206 km.. if people cant set their own personal clocks to get up at their pray time... my goodness what is wrong with them ... why should others who do not follow this faith have to be woken up just for a few???? UN slams 'discriminatory' Swiss minaret ban
Oh Trisha, trisha, trisha... you know they wont say that thats discrimination that they dont allow any other religion in that country ... as they will say it is their right not to have any as per the Quran.... and so the UN will accept that.... It wont affect the image of Switzerland... if anything it will probably enhance it as people will know around the world that the swiss have taken a stand, had their voices heard on what they want within their country. UN slams 'discriminatory' Swiss minaret ban
In the article it says this (and funny if I remember correctly I have also said this before this article was even printed)..... **The referendum doesn't affect Switzerland's four existing minarets, or the ability of Muslims to practice their religion. It only bans the towers used to put out the Islamic call to prayer.** They seem to also forget that there are 200 Mosques in this country already and only 4 yes 4 have these stupid looking towers with the speakers hanging on them to blast out the call to pray....!!!!!! Why is there 196 mosques without them????? Umm who friggens knows. It is NOT "anti-foreign er scare-mongering " ... as per Mr Pillay - the U.N. human rights chief.... it is just saying NO TO THE DAM TOWERS......!!!!!! They have allowed as I said 200 mosques to be built in this once Neutral country .... which has no declared religion... but it is made up of over 82% Roman Catholics..... the Population @ 2007 was approx 7,554,661 ... with an average of 190 people per sq mtr (495 per sq mile).... http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Islam_i n_Switzerland... According to the Confederate census of 2001, a total number of 310,807 Muslims were living in Switzerland which made up 4.26% of the total population[1]. In 2009 there were an estimated 400,000 Muslims in Switzerland, accounting to around 5% of the total population. Now think about it... 200 mosques with a population of Muslims of say the estimate of 400,000 .... Yet the amount of churches is so much less... with over 6 Million being of the Christian following.... (there are approx 9 Catherdals ... and I could find a list that states 55 churches... there is probably a few more but that gives a good indication).http:/ /www.myswitzerland .com/en.cfm/intere sts/excursions/off er-Activities_Excu rsions-Kloster-lis t-all.html They have MORE mosques than churches ... and yet the UN carries on ... OMG... these people need to get a friggen life.... do some dam research on what they already have .... and just MOVE ON.....!!!!! but they wont... until they have gotten their own way over friggen everything. (Tuesday | post #17)
Hey Tinkerbell.... (and such a cute name .. gotta luv it !!!) ... well we have proven this person so dam wrong.... and notice we have had no further correspondence from this person from KSA... (well thats the isp addy). This person is so far behind the times its unbelievable... lol (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #42)
Its their right to vote if they want it or not... yes they had posters printed, tv air time about it .. but the swiss are smart.... its called doing research on the topic... and what the minarets stand for. If where I live, they proposed one ... I would be saying No .. and why. They already have 4 minarets in Switzerland... it might have around 200,000 Muslims living there (and most came after WW2 ... and remember it was a neutral country for so dam long).... 82% of the population are Christians(RC/Swis s Reform), 11% are non religious .. and 4% are Muslims... The two major religious confessions are the Roman Catholic Church (42% of the population) and the Swiss Reformed Church (35%). The country is historically about evenly balanced between Catholic and Protestant regions. The larger cities (Bern, Zürich, Basel, Geneva) are traditionally Protestant, while Central Switzerland and the Ticino are traditionally Catholic. Immigration has brought Islam (4.26% as of 2000, compared to 0.26% in 1970) and Eastern Orthodoxy (1.8%) as sizeable minority religions.. Other minority communities include various Protestant denominations (totalling 1.9%), the New Apostolic Church (0.45%), Hinduism (0.38%), Buddhism (0.29%), Judaism (0.25%), Jehovah's Witnesses (0.23%) and the Old Catholic Church (0.18%). Various other communities account for 0.31%. 11.1% of the Swiss were irreligious as of 2000, another 4.3% refused to make a statement. http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Religio n_in_Switzerland .... its their rights to say NO. (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #29)
And also this for Desertgnu of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia who asked this question: . Name 1 international organisation they belong to. Just one! Switzerland's policy of neutrality means it does not belong to NATO. Since 1953, it has participated in peacekeeping missions, including NATO's Partnership for Peace (PfP) in 1997. It is one of four members (with Sweden, Poland, and the Czech Republic) of the UN Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission monitoring the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea. Switzerland eventually joined the United Nations in 2002. Switzerland is a member of the Council of Europe (CoE), the Europe-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Organisation for the Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and the Schengen area. http://www.dfat.go v.au/GEO/switzerla nd/switzerland_bri ef.html Wow look at all the groups they are part of ..... wow isnt it amazing what some research on the internet does .... (and oh so hard to find ... NOT !!!!) (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #28)
YOU ARE WRONG WRONG WRONG ...!!!!!!!! Switzerland IS a member of the United Nations.... this occurred in 2002... and it became the 190th member to join .... (so ummm suggestion... do some research before you state or question someone)http://www .un.org/News/Press /docs/2002/GA10041 .doc.htm Prior to that .. they were always A neutral state... so why shouldnt they kick out everyone that is not there own....!!!! Does KSA do that to people who do not follow their religious laws ... but then again they dont allow CHURCHES, Synagoues etc to be built in that country .... so Switzerland has every right to do what they are doing .... Well done to the Swiss !!!!! More countries need to do the same thing. (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #26)
Woman fights for son taken by sharia court
Exactly ... and in her words... I believe that... blah blah blah .. she has probably never been outside her country or been to one of our great countries to know anything.... wonder how many so called western women she has met that have converted to islam ... probably NONE. Oh well ... such is life I suppose. (Tuesday Dec 1 | post #10)
Jesus never denied he is NOT God.
Oh come on BMZ... why ask him ... when no one except ppl on here have even heard of him. If he is so great... why is there nothing about his so called claims published except in his own little cyberworld of fiction. I have read what he writes and what a load of utter rubbish. He has no followers (bar yourself - and in a different country).. etc.. so beats me why you keep thinking he is so great. I thought you were better than that... honestly I did. (Monday Nov 30 | post #715)
But what they dont bother to say is this.... hey they have not BANNED the mosques being built... they have not stopped people from having what ever religion they want.... all they did was say NO to the minarets... thats all ... nothing more nothing less. How is it a violation of human rights to say NO to these towers that blast out the call to pray???? Dont people have alarm clocks in all shapes and forms (whether it be on your mobile phone or the bed side radio clock .. or even a wind up clock?????) ... sheesss I know my mob I can set multiple times for alarms on what ever day of the week I please. Now the people of Switzerland have spoken .... they dont want these towers.... and some of them such an eye sore with all of the loud speakers attached to them. If they want them ... friggen hell go to a country that has them already in place... Most of these Muslims migrated there after WW2.... yes some had been there for a while... and they already have 4 in switzerland. I am getting sick and tired of want want want ... blah blah blah if they dont get their own way in everything ... from this, to pray rooms, to being able to say what ever they like against us and have no penalities put against them ... but if WE did the same thing... oh no ... you are branded a racist (even though its not a dam race of people at all)... and political correctness has to be adhered to all the time ... but totally one sided. If the UN or the High council over turns this... I reckon there will we a lot of problems... maybe riots etc.. who knows.... (Monday Nov 30 | post #20)
