Two arrested on drug charges in Fayetteville

Our hats off to PSP. This is a good story being reported by the PO. This time no one is attacking the PSP. High and getting into a car that isn't theirs. Yep that's why they call it DOPE, dope.  (Mar 9, 2010 | post #8)

Editorial: PSP policy imbalances the justice system

For whatever reason whether it is bad reporting or PSP animosity towards the Public Opion paper it is obvious that full details of an incident are not given to or acquired by the PO. Some recent events had full details on the incident the same day while the PO reported that PSP was withholding information for some obscure reason. PSP and the PO need to learn to get along together. PSP isn't doing itself any favors by not working with the PO. PSP is not looked at as being very community friendly as it is. There are always situations wherre information must be withheld in an ongoing case but when two different papers reporting on the same story the same day the withholding information to protect the innocent doesn't hold water.  (Mar 8, 2010 | post #16)

States consider banning credit checks for jobs

You're and idiot. I don't call people names very often but I believe you have earned it. I would say most people do want to pay their bills but when they get laid off and then unemployment runs out paying the bills is not an option anymore. I hope you never have to be in that sort of spot. Having a bad credit rating doesn't always mean you're a bum. Using a credit rating to check character for job is not that good of a tool. I know plenty of people that have great credit ratings but i wouldn't let them work for me 10 minutes. The only thing the credit check should be allowed to reveal is whether or not you are dealing with a felon. the background check is much more useful than a credit check and they are quite different things.  (Mar 7, 2010 | post #6)

Letter to the Editor: Some general rules for tipping

You seem to forget that the salaries of these servers is based on a minimum wage and their tips. I have had several in my family work as servers and they work very hard for what they get. yes sometimes they might give bad service and they should be tipped that way. But the point is if you have a $50 bill and the server has provided good service then they are entitled to a good tip. you should budget for the tip and not go if you don't have enough money. It's not fair to those who serve you. What if you worked overtime for your company and on payday the boss said "Well i have enough to pay for your regular time but the overtime can't be paid for but here's a few dollars and thanks for the effort". that wouldn't fly very well would it. well that is what you essentially do to these servers when you short change them. Some of these kids have babies to feed and it makes it very hard when they don't get their fair rewards.  (Mar 7, 2010 | post #70)

Chambersburg Police Dept. reminder: Don't open your car d...

I generally don't call people names when i post but for you i will make an exception. Yours is the stupidest post i have seen in along time. People just need to be more aware and careful when driving or parked on these narrow streets. don't forget these streets were made originally for horse and carriage. They neither drove fat or had doors. I drive slowly on these streets. I don't want blood or car door on the front of my Truck.  (Mar 6, 2010 | post #30)

Letter to the Editor: Police force we can be proud of?

Bad reporting by the PO or not doesn't change the fact of the many many post related to just a hand fullof PSP officers. this complaints go back much further than any bad reporting by the PO. We the community aren't and haven't said that all of the PSP officers are bad but if yo look at the prior post ther are some names that always float to the top os the list of bad ones. The local PSP has done nothing to rectify the poor handling of several recent incidents. PSP never makes any effort to try to improve the relationship with the public. Trust and Respect are something that has to be earned and it can be sabotaged by just a few. The last time I checked PSP has not done anything to work with the community on at least three recent incidents with the PSP and questionable actions by certain officers. There was the 80+ year old lady that had been arrest by an officer that happened to be friends with the complainants, Mr Doyle and Mt Rourke. These three incidents have fueled the fires of Mis-trust with the community. As i have mentioed before the local PSP leadership seems to be lacking when it comes to community relations. They are more concerned with wielding their power than earning respect and trust. If PSP wants to have a community that is proud of them then they need to start acting like it. Why is so many complaints against officer Finkle been ignored. regarless of what kind of officer PSP thinks he is the community doesn't trust him. he needs to be moved on. That would begin to show the community that we are all in this together. Mr. Rourke's case is probably the worst example of PSP just wielding it's power instead of its understanding of a situation. No One has ever said that Mr Rourke didn't need to be restrained the scene of the accident involving his son. The PSP oficer involved showed little compassion by not understanding the emotions involved. Even though legally right in the charges he brought he could have been more sensitive to the moment by removing Mr. Rourke and trying to console him instead of arresting him. or even if he had to be arrested at the moment following through with the charges weren't warranted. I don't claim to have all the answers but i do know that if PSP is to have the respect and trust by the community they have to change the way they serve the community. It is a shame that just a few incidents spoil the image of the many good PSP officers. we unfortunate don't hear much about the good guys. It seems that the PO doesn't think good news sells. I also think that the PO has a huge lack of trust and respect by the community. they are not innocent in any of the reports in the county. Their reporting leaves a lot to be desired but they aren't responsible for the many complaints about the same officers or the inappropriate actions by the PSP. People that call us names becasue we raise soome issues with the PSP are people that can't defend their own positions. The President of the PSP troopers association began his recent letter to the editor to the community by calling us names. what kind of PR is that? How is that combative approach helpful to building respect with us. PSP has a big perception problem and they don't seem to get it.  (Mar 6, 2010 | post #16)

More Pa. Jobs Lost in 2009 than Initially Thought

Well if Arlen gets this information he will probably say it is a good thing and to be glad it wasn't more. I guess good old Hussein Obama will be coming through with those Stimulus jobs anyway now, right? Of course once we get national health care all of our problems will be solved, right? Isn't that what he promised us last year? I can't wait until he gets Cap& Trade into law and all the jobs that will create. mybe Arlen can get one of those Jobs in November when we throw his butt out on the street.  (Mar 5, 2010 | post #4)

Teen convicted to 20 years for murder

when you tell someone if they don't like it here to move away you only show your own incapacity to debate a subject. It makes not difference if he ever gets executed but the real difference is that he will never be free again. If i have to pay for him to be in jail i would rather it be on death row. killing this man while stealing his wallet is not an accident. it is a deliberate action on his part. This judge should be thrown off the bench. Too soft on criminals.  (Mar 5, 2010 | post #28)

PennDOT announces bridge work along I-81 in Franklin County

The bridges do need to be repaired but closing the bridges for over a years is absurd. They should fix one side an then the other. I know some will say they have to fix some of the things on both sides at the same time. well golly gee why not work on it 24/7 and get it done. If you can live without the bridge for over a year you probably don't need the bridge to start with. Just tear it down and save us all some money.  (Mar 4, 2010 | post #5)

Father of Path Valley crash victim faces charges over inc...

Very good post except what part of this story warrants the PSP bringing charges gainst a distraught father who was acting under emotions to see his son. the HEROIC thign for PSP to have done at this point would have been to remove Mr Rourke from the scene (i think most would agree was necessary) and try to console him instead of a pushing match that led to unnecessary charges. Where is the heroic deed in these charges.  (Mar 1, 2010 | post #1014)
