A terrible use of the Good Book
And, the other thing is that (with the help of the internet) most of us can go back and look at the original language to find correct definitions of words and passages (not in all cases, but many). The problem is that many christian churches like their modern erroneous and biased mis-translations better. It's ridiculous! (45 min ago | post #7)
Washington city council votes to legalize gay marriage
No, they don't. What will probably happen is that Congress will most likely ignore it, and then it will become law after thirty days. (1 hr ago | post #10)

When "Gracious Restraint" Fails - The Real Anglican Tragedy
If you want to know what some of the vague terms and phrases in those passages truly mean, you are going to have to go back to the original ancient Greek to do so. And, even then, Paul made up a word in the I Corinthians verse, so it is impossible to accurately define that one with confidence. (2 hrs ago | post #51)
Lesbian bishop-elect finds support as well as controversy
No! It's being practiced by bigots who don't want to admit that they are BIGOTS, so they try to hide their bigotry behind G-d, the Bible, and christianity. But it doesn't work at all. You're ALL quite transparent. (14 hrs ago | post #101)

It says NO such thing, bigot! The Leviticus references are a condemnation of idolatry (the pagan worship of fertility gods in this case). The Hebrew word for abomination in this verse is “tow’ebah.“ It is used 112 times and always means the pagan worship of foreign gods. It is not a condemnation of homosexuality. The word interpreted into the English word mankind is “zakar.“ It means any male of any species that has been consecrated to a God (including a temple prostitute), any God. In addition, in the ancient Hebrew the word “with” was not there which indicates that this was thought to be an act of rape. This is a far cry from a loving and committed same gender relationship. Leviticus is/contains the holiness code/law of the ancient Hebrews. There are other such laws which would make eating shrimp or shell fish and the wearing of clothing made from two different kinds of fabric an abomination. In addition, it states they were to stone their children to death for sassing (the parents). No one (other than possibly Jews) seems to pay any attention to these other requirements these days. Romans 1 is a condemnation of idol worship and not of homosexuality. Read the entire chapter for greater understanding and context (and especially verse 23). And, those were heterosexuals having orgies and same sex sex (abandoning their natural sexuality) and not homosexuals. The Romans engaged in temple prostitution of this sort quite often. It was even taxed. And, FYI, neither passage states ANYTHING about female/female sex. In Romans, it says that they had unnatural sex ... i.e. sex during their mentruation period or anal sex so not to get pregnant. (14 hrs ago | post #100)
DC City Council votes to legalize gay marriage - The Denver Post
Come on now, folks! Nancy Pelosi (the Rep. from my district in San Francisco) is House Speaker. Does anyone REALLY think that she is going to allow this to come to the floor of the House for a vote??? I suppose it *could* happen, but I think that the chances of that happening are VERY close to nil. And, I suspect that the Senate has enough SSM supporters to block any vote in the Senate as well. We might have to worry about a popular vote if the courts force that, but I think that is probably unlikely as well considering how they ruled when the bill to recognize SSM's from other jurisdictions passed. Yes. This country has a dismal record of taking care of the poor and needy. And, too much idolatry going on. Ezekiel 16: 49) "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50) And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good" (17 hrs ago | post #4)
