Newcomer to Santa Ana politics announces campaign for War...

The only way to ensure diversity on our Council will be to move to Ward specific elections. But that would require a lot of effort and support as signatures would have to be gathered so as to put such a measure on the ballot. Ironically, it was our white residents who opposed such a measure a few years ago, even though it would have essentially guaranteed one or two non-Latino Council members.  (Apr 29, 2012 | post #3)

You know Rich we do have to move past all this race crap. We are all in the same sinking boat. But demonizing our people isn't helping.  (Feb 22, 2012 | post #4)

The facts? You clearly are not aware that the U.S. killed hundreds of thousands of Native Americans and stole their land. And the U.S. robbed Mexico too. Even Pres. Lincoln opposed the Mexican American War. Keep it up. The GOP lost the black vote and now you are losing the Latino vote. Good job.  (Feb 21, 2012 | post #2)

I hear you. The GOP candidate got blown out two years ago. He has no money and no shot at this seat. To be honest, it is very hard for third party candidates to prevail in these races. Martinez at least is pro-business, as compared to the union hack Perez.  (Feb 12, 2012 | post #2)

Councilman Sarmiento to host a fundraiser for Martinez on...

I have covered the water fee issue for years. Did you know that we sell water at cut rates to Irvine? It appears you live in Irvine and you are directly benefiting from that arrangement. The Forbes story was based on FBI statistics. The corruption at Santa Ana's City Hall was engendered by Dave Ream and his mostly white cabal. So you're wrong there too amigo. It was the Latino Council that cleaned house!  (Feb 4, 2012 | post #4)

Actually Rich, Santa Ana is NOT a sanctuary city, but Garden Grove, a city run by Republicans, is. Figure that one out. Our City Council has not raised any taxes, in fact I helped defeat the Ream Assessment a few years ago and Ream has since retired. The School Board however has passed two bond measures. Republican Rob Richardson, a Trustee, supported both measures. Figure that one out too... Forbes magazine recently named our city the fourth safest large city in the U.S. Did you know that? I am betting no. Our Council has cleaned house, dumping Ream and his crooked cabal, and the Usual Suspect Commissioners. We are also close to solving our budget crisis. So you see, our Council is actually doing a fine job.  (Feb 3, 2012 | post #2)

Another day in the life of Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido

Richard, You are right, but when I realized that Alfredo Amezcua was even worse, I took the opportunity to get to know Pulido - and I like the fact that he is part of a progressive all-Latino City Council majority, that is getting things done. Just read the post. He is doing a lot of good in the community.  (Feb 12, 2011 | post #2)

Santa Ana graffiti targeting Gov. Brown underscores hate ...

Richard, Because Moreno and Hart have both said not so nice things about immigrants. And Moreno has condemned the gay community. She is in fact listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an affiliate of a hate group. The angry bloggers you referenced are generally affiliated with these two, or with Amezcua.  (Jan 22, 2011 | post #2)

Not true. There are still white Commissioners. In fact Sal Tinajero recently appointed a white commissioner. The truth is that the dismissed Commissioners have been ineffective or have been given to racism against our residents. Good riddance.  (Jan 21, 2011 | post #2)
