Then so be it. I'll align myself with fiscal conservatives any day. There's just too many intrusive loons among the social conservatives. Like you, I want the government downsized and out of my face. So then I'm going to get up in other people's faces at the same time? Over moral issues? It's not what's important right now. Stop overtaxing, stop overspending, secure the borders, tighten up the military, energy independence. THAT is the focus. Everything else is secondary, and without those five things, it won't matter who marries who. As I see it, the economic stability of the country, with it's national security reinforced, is the only issue right now. Certainly more important than a woman having a self-financed abortion. Priorities, Mykro, priorities.  (Nov 15, 2012 | post #109)

Hammer, I ain't looking to start anything, with anybody. I just want the ability to take care of my family with the values and work ethic I was raised with. I'd like to be able to do that with as little government interference as possible. I'll gladly pay my taxes, provided they go to what they are supposed to go to, as per the Constitution. Like infrastructure, the national defense, etc. I happily have money taken from my check for social security and Medicare, as I don't consider these to be entitlements. I believe in enforcing current immigration laws. That is where I seem to be diverging off the path with my brethren on the right. Despite my on spiritual and moral beliefs on the subject, it's not my business if a woman wants/needs and abortion. It affects me in absolutely no way if a gay couple wants to marry. (Why should us heterosexuals be the only miserable ones!) There is always time and need to show compassion for our fellow citizens, to take care of them, though I feel that is a moral obligation, not a forced legislative one. But there is also time and a need to stay out of people's business, too, especially when it is doing no harm to anyone (gay marriage) or is the law of the land (Roe vs. Wade). Sorry for pontificating!  (Nov 14, 2012 | post #80)

Did all these petitioners forget that secession didn't work out so well for anyone last time? Stop the nonsense, fellow conservatives. We lost because we spend too much time getting all worked up over social issues. Gays want to marry? Who cares!!!! A woman wants an abortion? Let her have one or ten. As long as it isn't on your dime, why should it matter to you? The focus should be, and should have been, the economy, jobs, and defense/national security. Instead, we have fools like Todd Akin mouthing off. And that's the crap that sticks in people's minds on Election Day, whether we like it or not. But if the economy collapses, who cares who is marrying who? In the grand scheme of things, it's a minor point to be getting all stressed out over. Secession? C'mon guys, give it a rest.  (Nov 14, 2012 | post #73)

Boehner, McConnell play good cop, bad cop

I'd like to see ALL of them go. We limit the president to two terms, so why do these 535 clowns get lifetime membership in government. Too many people shout that Election Day is a form of term limits for Congress, and in theory, it should be. But we all know how that works out, right? Ted Kennedy drives a woman into a creek and contributes to her death, yet his returned to the Senate for 6 more terms after. Strom Thurmond is doddering, inncoherent, and sleeping at his desk in the Senate, yet he is overwhelmingly voted back in. The system is broken! Limit senators to 2 terms, and representatives to 4 two-year terms. And that'll be the end of this country's worst form of entitlement. And it will hopefully limit the influence that Big Business and Big Labor lobbies have on our so-called 'leaders'. Maybe they'll start following the dictates of what WE want, not cozying up to whoever is providing their next 'fact-finding trip'.  (Nov 14, 2012 | post #8)

Politics of Petraeus Scandal: Who Knew What, When?

And if you think this administration is beyond reproach because it is Democrat, you are singularly naive, and have learned nothing from history! Evidence??? Yeah, sure. Maybe when the next administation takes over. Save your tin hat crap for the birther loons and the 9/11 truther clowns. I'm pretty sure someone said early on that Watergate was just a third rate burglary and had nothing to do with anything. And look at the shitshow that was. I know I'm not going to change your mind. I'm just not as quick to buy into the crap this administation, and the 4 previous ones, tries to peddle us.  (Nov 13, 2012 | post #94)

Politics of Petraeus Scandal: Who Knew What, When?

Sorry, Wood. I'm too cynical about all D.C. politics to believe that. We've been lied to by everyone in Washington for so long, my trust in them is non-existent. We'll agree to disagree. And thanks for the Bob Smythe answer. The laugh was appreciated.  (Nov 13, 2012 | post #91)

Politics of Petraeus Scandal: Who Knew What, When?

All kidding aside, I just meant that we seem to have these scandals in every administration the past couple of decades. All I was saying is that the inquiries go on too long, and all the facts rarely come out. And someone below the true seat of power. who makes an error, or does something wrong, is made to fall on the sword, so to speak. This time it's Petraeus. We've had Scooter Libby, Denise Rich, and Ollie North in the past. I wasn't implying it as a Dem/Rep issue. Just more of a typical Washington disfunction issue.  (Nov 13, 2012 | post #88)
