Vermont's African American Heritage Trail

Vermont is fantastic. It has some of the absolute lowest crime rates in the entire country (the 3rd safest state in the entire country in fact, behind Maine and NH), the highest standards of living, and some great landscapes and friendly people. It also has tons of killer Mom 'n Pop shops and some of the best Microbrewers in the country (The Alchemist and Hills Farmstead come to mind,) lots of places are very green and "Old timey" in feel, for lack of a better term. That being said, it's kind of funny for VT to have an African American Heritage Trail, it's the second or third whitest state in the entire country (behind NH and Maine) and is something like 95% - 98% white. I mean, there are way more Canadians in VT than there are black people (nothing against black people or anything, it's just the way it is up here.) It is one of the top 2 or 3 LEAST racially diverse states in the entire country.... so I'm left to assume that VT's African American Heritage Trail is one Hell of a short hike.  (Mar 27, 2013 | post #7)

OK, sure. The PC, the internet, and modern English existed in Ancient Egypt. You're out of your mind.  (Mar 22, 2013 | post #72)

Yes, like I said, Blackamoor art has absolutely nothing to do with the Berbers that occupied Southern Spain. Blackamoor art coincided with the modern day Trans-Atlantic slave trade and was popular in Europe hundreds of years after the Berber Moors. It shows people of black African descent, adorned with fancy jewels (because they were DECORATIVE after all, often pieces of jewelry to be worn or displayed by the nobility of Europe), in positions of complete servitude under the conditions of slavery as was occurring at that time in Europe. This is why they’re usually holding food serving implements, candles, wash pans, trays etc. – because they were slaves. Honestly, Blackamoor art is extremely well-known as are its origins (and is considered offensive these days): http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Blackam oors_(decorative_a rts) To attempt to pawn it off as some kind of historical record of the Berbers that occupied Southern Spain is absolutely historically ridiculous, as the Berbers that occupied Southern Spain were not African slaves from the time of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. I mean, honestly, you can see how the Moors that occupied Southern Spain were actually depicted by not only Europeans at the time of their occupation but also by themselves: http://www.angelfi re.com/md/8/moors. html Derogatory Blackamoor arts glorifying slavery popular in Europe hundreds of years later have absolutely nothing to do with that period of time.  (Mar 22, 2013 | post #71)

That is an absurd theory based entirely on fantasy. There is no way a common group of ancestora could possibly be established once their respective populations were distinct, separate, and numerous. That makes no sense whatsoeverNo, that's entirely false. The word "Moor" comes from the Latin "Maurus, " which most decidedly does not mean "Black". It was coined to described the people SPECIFIC to the Northwestern portion of Africa, which denoted a "Dark, Faint, or Dim" skin tone, the exact same tone Berbers have today (they are a darker people... brown, much like Arabs.) It has nothing to do with "Black"; black people were referred to as "Aethiops ", not "Maurus, " or in other words "Ethiopians. " They had a completely different designation than the Moors did. The pictures the Moors depicted THEMSELVES as all depict them as primarily Eurasian Berbers, that’s a fact. You’re referring to later derogatory Blackamoor art (created by Europeans hundreds of years later) that depicts African slaves, and that has nothing to do with the Moors that invaded Southern Spain.  (Mar 21, 2013 | post #66)

True "nature" of whites? So you honestly believe we are "devil serpents"? You're giving us too much power. We are just people, not a villainous supernatural presence. And if you abhor whites so much feel free to abandon what we have contributed to this society you are presently living in.... the computer you're using, the internet infrastructure you are communicating through, even the language you're speaking now. For all your venomous tirades against the white serpent you sure seem to be enjoying the use of his “tools,” now don’t you? You are hating a people you don't even know. EVERY race has done horrible things on this planet. White people are just people, just like every other people. Worry about bettering yourself, not denigrating whites. There are whites out there (the majority of whites), like myself, that do not judge and dislike a person based on the color of his face. I can see, however, that you are mentally disturbed and in need of help.  (Mar 21, 2013 | post #64)
