Weight-loss icon rocks Lawrence school

Does anyone ever read all of these venomous letters? I used to really like Indianapolis until I started reading all of these IndyStar comments. There are even people from out of state participating in this stoning of people. Jared did eat more than he should have. No one argues that point. He did lose a massive amount of weight. He lost more weight than my total weight! Give the guy some "atta-boys " for losing all of that weight and encouraging others to do the same.  (Mar 14, 2008 | post #60)

Battery recycler pays penalty to settle violations

Unfortunately lead recyclers frequently do not meet emissions regulations. In Indianapolis the lead recycler is "Quemetco ", and RJR company. (When I was looking for work as a chemist, they continually had ads for a chemist), At another job I spoke with a person who had worked at Quemetco and spoke about pulling the IDEM samplers out of the sewer so the company could flush waste down the sewer and not get caught. The management actually spent time in jail for that!  (Mar 8, 2008 | post #1)

Souvenir sell-off leaves taxpayers empty-handed

Doesn't someone still owe money for the Hoosier-RCA dome? Wasn't the 1% tax on prepared foods originally labeled as a "temporary tax"? Why are people from outside of Indiana commenting with such emotion on this issue?  (Mar 6, 2008 | post #44)

Market Street interstate ramp coming down

This ramp is a tribute to American engineering and labor. As someone who is from Indianapolis, lives and works in downtown Indy, I will miss this ramp. Now that Central Supply or "House of a Million Screws" has moved to Park 100, it's probably time to get a new ramp. Sad to see it go, anxious to see what will come.  (Mar 5, 2008 | post #95)

No title

$750,000 ????? How much do our students pay to go to school there? Are any of our tax dollars being used to encourage lies? I can cheat and tell lies for half of that.  (Feb 22, 2008 | post #385)

Mayor's office rescinds ban on WTLC contact

Heil Ballard! I had voted for Ballard, now I am ashamed of my vote. It would seem that if someone runs for a political office that they would realize that the press might say critical things. Just read the Star political cartoons or watch Letterman or Leno and hear jokes about our elected people. The experience in the Marine Corp was highly promoted in the campaign. I did not view his time in the Corp either for him or against him. In some ways his move to refuse business to WTLC could be viewed as tarnishing the image of the Marine Corp.  (Feb 16, 2008 | post #26)

4-story Eastside hotel planned

Who owns the Indy East. The Indianapolis Star was searched for Chan Patel and nothing was found. A quick internet search was done on Chan Patel, and a person in TX was found. For many years I lived either in the Irvington area or around 21st and Shadeland. The empty lot is much better than a potential roach motel. Maybe in the permits build in a clause that the structure must be torn down in 20 years??  (Feb 12, 2008 | post #13)

4-story Eastside hotel planned

Aren't there already 5 or 6 hotels at that intersection? How many of these old hotels turn into thief infested rat traps?  (Feb 12, 2008 | post #2)

Bill to cut sheriffs' extra fees advances

$368,000!?? We could have a tax evader stay in the Sherrif's home. Then we could have a violent felon stay in the Sheriff's home. This way the Sherrif could determine where his energies should be focused.  (Feb 4, 2008 | post #48)

Teen recounts terror of Six Flags accident

This event is certainly a tragedy. As cute as that girl looks in the picture, the boys not calling her is their tragedy.  (Jan 31, 2008 | post #19)

Lilly reportedly poised to settle Zyprexa case

The drugs that treat schizophrenia, like lithium, can cause weight gain. Carrie Fisher would be a good example. I think there was an article about her several years ago in the Star. She was at the state house for some mental-health day and had gained much weight. In many ways I'm sad that a company that makes a good product like Zyprexa has to go to court. Hopefully the court will ferret out if and how much the company has lied and misrepresented their product. I do think many drug studies are stacked to make the drugs look better. Likely it's the patient selection process to chose patients that will likely succeed with the product being tested can help products look better. My $0.02  (Jan 30, 2008 | post #8)

Shoring up Strattera

One of the interesting things about Strattera is that it is not a "me to" drug. I don't think that there are any other non-stimulant drugs for ADHD out there.  (Jan 20, 2008 | post #6)

Scott Newman says crime threatens areas around Indianapol...

The article spent some time discussing the low morale of the troops after the merger. Well, the rest of us have to go through company mergers and deal with it.  (Jan 20, 2008 | post #9)
