Glad to hear you're doing ok and that the Ph.D. work is still going... Hubby graduates today with his MS in Predictive Analytics. That was work enough! His work for his final project may get published, so that is quite the feather in his cap for a degree that he does not work with in his day-to-day work. best of luck to you as you progress!  (Jun 15, 2014 | post #99325)

i don't do a ton of miles, mostly commuting to work & puttering around town. it is nice to go to Cinci on one tank, toodle around there and still have enough diesel to get back to Indy - even though i fill up on the way out of town. plus, this thing has some power to it.  (May 29, 2014 | post #99064)

i've loved my jetta tdi... nearly 2 years old. I think mine was built in TN of engine & parts from Germany. hubby has a 2005 passat tdi that's still holding on, more years & miles than his previous GM car that needed gaskets replaced for a 2nd time. the current incarnation of the VW wagon is a Jetta, the prior one was the Passat. Most of hte newer wagons that i see around here are the TDIs. i think i read not too long ago that the next wagon will be called a golf. i just hope it's bigger than the golf is.  (May 27, 2014 | post #99038)

and i thought i was ambitious with mowing the lawn, fixing 10' of border paver stones, planting 2 tomatoes, 1 cuke and some herbs. i have to build some sort of fence for the cabbages, beans & carrots. I think i once again missed the window of opportunity for spring peas. my plot is on the west side of our house & along the driveway, so that all gets nice & warm, even wehn the weather isn't that hot yet. a little bit of sun burn & i'm itching like mad, and by friday i'll have nothign to show for it any more.  (May 27, 2014 | post #99037)

the step after Little House is Anne of Green Gables.... i got my BFF's daughter the whole set over a couple years, and she loved them. sigh, this saturday she graduates from HS as an A student and member of National Honor Society. i can't help but think that giving her books for years helped plant a seed of success...  (May 13, 2014 | post #98732)

If ever you have the opportunity to go to the big mall during the work week, let me know and we can do lunch! Either that or i'll burn my my vacation in fall and meet up by your office...  (Mar 11, 2014 | post #96630)

The sun doesn't necessarily affect how i wake up... when i was out of work, i could wake up around 8, say goodbye to hubby when he left, watch some tv and fall back asleep until noon. the problem would be when i had to get up to do something by 9, but then, i'd nap or fall asleep at a "normal" hour (instead of 2, 2.30, 3 in the morning). now that i'm back to work - woo hoo! - it's amazingly tiring to be at work. last week, on the 3rd day back, i could have taken a nap at lunch time. i came home, napped from 5:30-8, woke up for dinner, and fell dead-to-the-world asleep at 11 or so, and slept through the night. today was a little better... easier to wake up and get rolling, but i forgot how long it takes me to get "work ready" in the morning... eh, its a work in progress... PS, thanks for the good thoughts, everyone!  (Mar 10, 2014 | post #96560)

OK, this is good... on jimmy fallon late night... jimmy's doing a lip sync contest with paul rudd... like both of them. paul rudd just did a queen song. so good. he also did a tina turner song (ok, but could have strutted a little more) and jimmy did juke box hero. look for a clip on line...  (Feb 25, 2014 | post #96390)

there's something in the air this year... mine was 2 weeks ago, and it was such a low key occasion this time around (and it's a milestone year). aside from a couple of nice dinners out, one could hardly tell there was a birthday going on... I've been out of work for a few months now, which is really starting to get to me. that and our completely spastic winter out here. now that the sun is out more often, i'm doing a little better. that and a visit to my bro & SIL for the 5YO's b-day. The kid was really into his birthday, complete with "when will i start growing, now that i'm 5" and commenting that "this show is for babies" even though he liked it 2 days prior... <smiling> then he pitched such a fit about something that it took back all his charm about getting older...  (Feb 24, 2014 | post #96342)

thanks for the update... i smile when i hear queen on satellite radio (and i just had a 6 hour round trip road trip). Knowing her favorite artists is one thing, but learning her favorite songs by them and some of her other favorites is... dunno... not better, but... guess i'm a little sentimental today! That's what happens when i'm left alone for too many days! ;-j  (Feb 24, 2014 | post #96337)
