Ryan's Mission For Fed: Focus On Prices, Not Unemployment

In fact, Bush DID "bail them out" http://pewresearch .org/databank/dail ynumber/?NumberID= 1057 For the record you wont hear me arguing that Obama wouldn't have done the same thing. In fact, they likely did it together. But TARP was enacted under Bush, not Obama. A president with a pair of uh ovals in the office would have given the 26 trillion http://www.ritholt z.com/blog/2011/12 /bailout-total-29- 616-trillion-dolla rs/ to the public as bonds. Think about it 26 trillion / 300,000,000 men women and children = 86,000 and change to every U.S. citizen. Where would the money go? right back to the banks! Mortgages, car notes, credit cards, college loans, you name it! Just as all roads went to Rome, All money eventually returns to the banks. Why not you ask? Because the government as a whole depends on poor, uneducated people who need government. And the politicians depend ultimately on bankers, and industrialists to finance their campaigns. So doing something like that regardless of the benefits to John Q. public would reduce the size of government (and all politicians want big government - thats how they remain employed and get the funds to look good. The repubs and demos just want a different kind of big government) And would displease those who keep the individual politicians in office. And until campaigns are publicly funded, and politicians serve only one term, the cycle will continue and we will all pay the price.  (Aug 14, 2012 | post #17)

Well that's interesting but disconcerting. The roaring 20's were roaring because of the fractional reserve system or "buying on margin" http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Roaring _Twenties#Economic _policies combined with a massive technological boom. The 30's however were.. well not so roaring to say the least. If I may be permitted a cliche... "those who will not learn from history are doomed to repeat it"  (Aug 14, 2012 | post #16)

Bush is a hero

Oh, I think I have caught on quickly enough. I am also certain that there are a large number of people in our county who feel that neither nominated candidate is in any way in touch with their beliefs. I am sure that you are aware of this as you live in the state with the largest electoral vote (by a long shot) and it clearly does not represent your viewpoint http://www.270towi n.com/states/Calif ornia I, in fact would have voted for Ron Paul, had he been a "viable" candidate. I would have done this regardless of the fact that I disagree with his stances on some issues because I at least know in which direction his beliefs lean because of his unwavering voting record http://votesmart.o rg/candidate/key-v otes/296/ And so now, if I wish to vote, I must vote based on what I consider the lesser of two evils. And in your opinion, everyone in my region is an "obamazombie ". And this is why we as a nation are so easily fooled.  (Aug 14, 2012 | post #142228)

Nice video! Can't believe he did that after winning the nobel peace prize but nothing surprises me any more.  (Aug 14, 2012 | post #142224)

I expect a lot of trouble for our country as long as our citizens allow a quadrennial superbowl to determine their viewpoint on the foreign policy of the world's most powerful military and economy.  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #142215)

I will do so based on the premise that god is love. If there is no god or god is not a being of love then of course this premise is invalid. God is love Hate is the absence of love much like cold is the absence of heat Therefore hate is the absence of god Hell is a term commonly used to describe a place in which there is separation from (absence of) god Therefore hell is a place for those that hate 37 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Jesus Christ u  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #218)

Bush is a hero

Yes, yes, Very first post on "topix". I tried immediately to edit that post to say "closest thing the U.S. has had to a hero in the oval office LATELY was JFK". No such luck unfortunately. However, I saw the title of the thread, and still do not feel that Bush was a hero, or Obama, or Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, etc. And of course I MUST be a flaming liberal since I am from Washington state right? Where is that southern hospitality I have heard so much about gentlemen?  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #142208)

And you are free to assume. I am no fan of Obama either. Forgive me for reading the thread title and commenting before reading 1000 plus comments. Geez.  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #142207)

Well, I caught the sarcasm :) I don't think the nation is in any danger of momon theocracy (the least if my personal concerns regarding Romney) and I don't understand why anyone would be concerned about catholic rule either... They had their chance ;)  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #142201)

Against my better judgement, and because I am bored, I will believe 2 things: 1. You are not a troll(again, against my better judgement) 2. You are a christian(based on your comment) Are you aware that according to common christian doctrine: 1. anyone who has done anything the bible describes as a "sin" including breeding a mule and planting two kinds of seed in one field (look it up Leviticus 19 - 19 the same book of the bible commonly cited to condemn sodomy) is in fact going to burn in hell? 2. The only way to avoid this and enter "the kingdom of god" is to accept that Jesus died in place of these sins thereby removing everything from murder to homosexuality to breaking the speed limit? If not look it up then reply If so, what sense does your comment make? If you are in fact a troll I expect an off topic reply...  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #207)

The saddest thing is that there are so many people who can identify with "James". It never ceases to amaze me how those who claim to follow Jesus who taught us to love each person regardless of who they are, can be so hateful to even their own children. I truly hope (and believe) that one day James' father will have an experience that requires James to accept him for who HE is.  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #200)

It is my position that prohibition actually increases accessibility to children. For example, when one is 12, everyone knows who the middle school pot dealer is. On the other hand - alcohol - arguably a more destructive substance is more difficult to obtain without neglectful parents or a much older (and neglectful) sibling. Prohibition is not the answer. Education, awareness, and common sense is what we need.  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #26)

Bush is a hero

The fact is that very few politicians are "heros". A hero is a soldier who sacrifices his life to save his friends. A hero is a citizen who runs into a melting nuclear plant to save his country. A hero tells the truth to the face of power, and exposes corruption even if it costs him his reputation. A hero does what is right even to the point of death. The closest thing the U.S. has had to a "hero" in the oval office was JFK.  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #142195)
