Homeless shelter needs volunteers

Why has this become an argument? People Vs. Animals. Why is Linda(whom I don't know) being judged in the court of public opinion? Help or don't help, that is the issue. For all of you that don't like Linda go get your hands dirty and volunteer, see what she is doing. Ask questions, why is this being done this way? Get involved. Then come back here and post so that people in the county really know what goes on. I think we can all agree that there is a lot of USELESS suffering in this world that involves all species. One person can not save the world but they can make it better, are you one of those people? I do volunteer work and it is the most rewarding thing I have ever done *Ahem* people and animals. I am not a rich implant either, I was raised in Blue Ridge and work a full time job. I know most of your Mamma's raised ya'll better than to come on here and talk crap about people. If they didn't, would it hurt to show your children that you can be compassionate? What legacy are you leaving behind? Kids that will help their fellow man or dog or cat. Kids that will kick another soul while it's down? Be proud to say "I help and I care." You will find that, you will be a happier person because of it.  (Jun 28, 2009 | post #29)

Now hold up, a life is a life and should not be DISPOSED of. The point is, life should be preserved no matter what species. Do you care so much about people that you are willing to set a good example for your friends and family by volunteering at a nursing home? Homeless shelter? Battered women's shelter? In most cases someone's attitude about animals is a good indication of just what kind of person they are. People in glass houses should never throw stones.  (Jun 28, 2009 | post #28)

Fannin County man charged with dogfighting

I think we are losing sight of the real issues here, there is a lot of name calling and ignorant comments flying around in here. Albert White will be tried by a jury or cop a plea, but his innocence/guilt should not be the main focus here. Fannin Co. is small and as a close nit community a lot of underhanded crap goes on. It needs to stop. I lived my entire life 1/4 mile from Sheriff Ensley and A. White. I have never heard of either of them "Fighting " anything, that does not mean it was not happening. Did anyone stop to think that election time is upon us and (with the whole Vick thing fresh in our minds) what a great way to get peoples minds off the real issues, like meth! I am very dissappointed with the county for putting the dogs down. I am a volunteer for a homeless animal shelter, and as far as I know we were never contacted about taking any of the animals. There are 3 reputable "Pitt" rescues in Atl. who have taken 3 of the Vick dogs. Do you think they were contacted? I don't. I think Ensley has done a good job but I also think it's time for a change. We need younger better informed folks in county government who won't mind rocking the boat. We need a county government who will get off their laurels and put forth a little effort. I vote for mandatory spay/neuter legislation. If you can't afford the proper vet care you should not have the animals, anyway. I have 3 cats and 1 dog all are fixed and all save 1 are rescues. I also think the people of Fannin and Gilmer counties need to step up and be responsible pet owners, ignorance only goes so far.  (Sep 24, 2008 | post #61)
