Town supervisors envision rapid transit for Route 110

We'll all have jet packs for commuting before town supervisors or the MTA figure out how to configure an effective transit system on the Island. LI messed up from the get go on the public transit system. Apparently they figured people would only be traveling east and west. The bus system, especially Suffolk's, has been mediocre at best. And, forget about if you want to bike commute anywhere and get there in one piece. Planning before the Island became overpopulated should have been done but unfortunately it was not. Does anyone think there is a way to fully correct it? I think the whole transportation system of the Island needs to be razed and recreated from scratch. Of course, this will never get done, nor would it be done without financially raping all of us residents. Just my two cents.  (Apr 18, 2009 | post #48)

Dix Hills' Greg Mottola relives 'Adventureland'

They didn't film it in Farmingdale because they wanted the look of an 1980s amusement park. Adventureland doesn't look the same as it did in 1987.  (Apr 4, 2009 | post #42)

Cameras to be installed at 50 LI intersections

A little off topic: I'm am against big brother watching, but what I find funny are the droves of people who believe they are important enough for the government to be watching.  (Apr 3, 2009 | post #169)

Cameras to be installed at 50 LI intersections

Having lived in Colorado for 4 years where red light cameras are all over the place, you get used to stopping for yellows, not sitting in an intersection to make a turn, etc. When I moved back, my fellow NYers could not understand why I stop for yellow lights. Bottom line is, you'll get used to it. (Why are we always in such a hurry anyway?) These are not surveillance video cameras. They only snap a couple of photos when there is motion in the intersection after the light turns red. If NY does the same as Colorado, you get a copy of the photo with the ticket which is often good for a laugh ("Is that what I really look like when driving???"). Of course, it's always a problem if you let someone borrow your car and they run a red light: you receive the ticket since it goes to whoever has registered the car. Happy driving, folks! Say, "cheese! "  (Apr 1, 2009 | post #95)

Ice cream man beaten in Holbrook

Have you seen some of the people that drive ice cream trucks? I wouldn't want them around people of any age with a firearm. I grew up with guns in my house which were always handled responsibly by the family members trained and licensed to handle them, and the firearms were always locked up away from the children. I have no problem with people who are trained and licensed to carry. Unfortunately, there are a contingency of people who carry that do not know squat about gun safety. And, yes, I must be completely nuts to think that a business marketed towards children should not have firearms. What the heck's wrong with me?  (Mar 29, 2009 | post #102)

Perhaps but I'm not too sure having a gun-toting ice cream man around children is such a good idea. I'm just saying.  (Mar 28, 2009 | post #23)

Colbert wins NASA space station name contest

You do realize that this is just a publicity tactic by NASA in an attempt to gain positive opinion from the public and that Colbert is a performer/persona, not a real person? Just want to reality test with you.  (Mar 24, 2009 | post #7)

Mag: Brookville is nation's richest

No need to attach him, just like there is no need to judge simply based on financial means. His beliefs in religious dogma has no affect on your life. Even though I don't follow the same beliefs system as him, I think it is great that people have faith and use it positive manner in their own lives or with good intentions towards others. Your belief that his beliefs are myth is perfectly fine for you to have as well. Don't let it upset you.  (Mar 19, 2009 | post #73)

Long Island tattoo parlors ink with the best

Tattoos are a personal decision. If you don't like them, then don't get one. If you are disgusted by those with them, don't date anyone with them. It's really quite simple. Often, tattoos have personal meanings for those who choose to get them, some get them for the aesthetics alone. Either way, it harms no one else. The beauty is that we live in a country where we have the option to express ourselves, or choose not to, in many different ways. The only time I have ever gotten judged harshly for my tattoos is on Topix. I am a professional and at work, my tattoos are fully covered. Over the years I have not once regretting getting my tattoos. Like them or dislike them, it is your choice. Cheers  (Mar 18, 2009 | post #34)
