Handguns are necessary if you need to carry away from home. It would take a pretty big purse to conceal a rifle. (Dec 17, 2012 | post #79)
Nope, I didn't pay attention. I am sorry. I am glad you you caught that. They are divorced now, but you are right. The ex IS the boy's Dad- in every way that matters. But that only adds to the hurt these two have caused, because if the boy and his dad did not know before, can you imagine the pain this will cause both of them now? I wish people would think before they acted out of their own selfish wishes and desires. We don't live in a vacuum. Our actions affect others, and we all need to remember that. I agree with you Hurley. Whatever happened to the notion that married people were taken, and off limits? The selfishness of some people never ceases to amaze me. Now Arnold and this woman have broken up his family, hurting his wife and children and also produced a child who never experienced a normal father-child relationship. Creeps, both of them. WOOD Radio has reported that Bernard Taylor is one of two finalists for the superintendent job in Syracuse, New York. He is there today. Will anyone miss him? Is he jumping a sinking ship? (Mar 1, 2011 | post #1)
Exactly why the framers of our government established that no state religion, no forced religion, and no impediments to the practice of religion would be allowed in the U.S. Is this a great country or what? (Aug 3, 2010 | post #102)
The name of the movie is Touchback. They are filming in Coopersville right now, and will be looking for people over the weekend of summerfest to sit in the footballl stands. (Aug 2, 2010 | post #2)
Both are dangerous, although I guess for different reasons. If I had to choose to have dinner with one of them, I guess I would choose the Christian extremist, simply because they tend to leave your head attached to your shoulders if you disagree with them. I don't want either group running my country. (Aug 2, 2010 | post #91)
If you want words referencing God, how about "Creator or Supreme Judge of the World". The thing is, the men who wrote the constitution did not live in an intellectual vacuum. They were great intellectuals, these men, and much of the writings were biblically based. The great documents we have today did not just jump from someones mind willy nilly. The founders were influenced by their religious beliefs, and the ideas of others just as we all are. Their beliefs sprang from a Reformation foundation. These teachings produced the idea against the deity of kings, and that since all men are sinners, no man is superior to another. The twin principals of liberty and equality sprang from these ideas. Other forms of government, including dictatorships, do not share these beliefs. As for spreading the ideals of freedom and liberty to others in the world, the question should not be how do you justify it, but how do you not? (Aug 2, 2010 | post #79)
Oh, I believe it is. This particular church does not want the ideas in the Quran to be read or practiced by others. It won't work. If we truly believe we are at war against extremist Islam, then we need to understand the teachings so we can point out effectively the errors we perceive. (Aug 2, 2010 | post #66)
You are mistaken about my thoughts on the subject. I am not suggesting that the United States rule the world. I am suggesting that people living in every country should have the opportunity to live in freedom just like you do. I wonder -why the sarcasm regarding the "cherished documents". Are they not cherished by you? (Aug 2, 2010 | post #63)
I am sorry, I was not clear. I have no problem with the Quran as writings practiced by moderate Muslims, ideas which of course the current government of Iran does not subscribe to. I do believe that we may have a moral obligation to spread the American lifestyle. We are told in our Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal and that our rights are given to us by our creator. Perhaps you feel God only means for you to be free? (Aug 2, 2010 | post #59)
I believe the Declaration of Independence certainly played a significant role in that it spelled out very clearly the views of the writers of our constitution. If YOU recall, James Madison, called it the "fundamental Act of Union of these states". Surely you don't consider James Madison misinformed? I can't imagine anyone, even a lefty like you, dismissing the significance of this great document to the birth of our nation! And yes, I remember that there is an eleven year gap between the issuing of the Declaration of Independence. Do you remember that at the end of that declaration that the writers of that document declared themselves free of Britain's rule, and free and independent states? "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of diving Providnece, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, or Fortunes and our sacred honor." divine Providence--that's God. I think that maybe we as Americans are so used to our form of government and the rights we have, that we don't realize that this is not the way most humans on earth live. Under our founding documents, we are endowed "by our Creator" the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Feel free to ask any Iranian you wish if those rights, or any others are given freely in their country, under Islamic religious principles. We are truly blessed in this country. Instead of burning books that contain ideas we find harmful to our way of life, maybe we should be teaching our children how to think and express themselves in a way that could convince others of our way of thinking. To do that though, people need to actually read and analyze what they read to make an informed argument. Calling people names won't sway anyone's opinion. (Aug 2, 2010 | post #54)
The burning of the Quran will not eliminate the message from being disseminated. If you disagree with the message in the book, as this church obviously does, its better to read it yourself so you can discuss and debate intelligently the ideas it contains. (Aug 2, 2010 | post #51)
