THIS office"? I can see now why we might would have just a little more personal interest in this than the average citizen...just keep in mind that everybody knows somebody, and the state ain't above pulling unannounced audits...but I'm sure a fine job is being done and that would be nothing to worry about...best of luck.  (Jun 13, 2012 | post #87)

Voter, it is not at all an issue that I have with property "taxes", as I am fully aware that the taxes are simply based off of the property appraisals, and are unavoidable regardless of county or any given county's Assessor of Property. My concern lies with our current Assessor and how the job has been handled to date. Nothing I have said is based on anything but pure fact. Maybe not in Mcnairy county, but within this country, there has been a multitude of Assessors who have, in fact, been sentenced to serve prison time for unfairly assessing property, more especially for undervaluing properties of friends or those who have the means to make it worth their time. This is all well covered by the media. Also, its not that difficult for anyone to go to the state website and see for theirself, that it is indeed the responsibility of the Assessor to give fair appraisals in relation to the "fair market value" of the property they are trusted to assess. Now, might I just be so bold as to ask, what part of that seems to qualify myself for western state residency? Also, just out of curiosity, are you in support of the job performance showed to the county by the current Assessor?  (Jun 11, 2012 | post #80)

Or better yet, maybe you should just call the State of TN and let them know they don't messed up on their outline of what a TN Property Assessor is responsible for...cuz lol Mrs. Betty don't do that....ha clearly...  (Jun 11, 2012 | post #75)

And you need to look up the TN comptroller's website...there happens to be alot of info on there devoted to explaining how the Assessor of Property's job is suppose to be done...and yes that goes for Tennessee too...lol why in the world do you think TN would be exempt from doing it in the same fashion as what's expected from any other state??? That don't even make any sense.  (Jun 11, 2012 | post #74)

Are you serious??? My suggestion to you would be to go get an education...yes the Assessor does have plenty to do with the re-appraisals...if you don't believe that, go online and take a quick peek at all the Assessors in this country who have went to prison for unfair appraisals, kinda like when the appraise properties of their friends for way lower than "the fair market value"...wow that sounds familiar...believe whatever ya want, but if I were Mrs. Ashe, I would be happy to get out of that office before too many people get wise as to how things really work...  (Jun 11, 2012 | post #71)

Upcoming Mcnairy County Election, who is everyone voting ...

Very very well said!!!! Mcnairy County has just as much potential, as any of our surrounding counties, however while they are all growing and making steady improvements, we seem to be stuck...excuse me, stuck would actually be an mprovement , Mcnairy county is steadily depreciating. What we have is a total lack of leadership and nobody being held accountable for anything, except for the taxpayers. Classic case of the tail wagging the dog, instead of the dog wagging the tail. Its about time for the citizens of this county to demand some results from the people WE vote into these offices. No growth in a term, should be enough for the citizens to take the personal factor out of the equation and vote rm out, regardless of whether we vote democrat or republican, regardless of whether they are our worst enemy or best friend, it ain't personal, its business. We go and spend all this money (taxpayers money) on a "welcome center" and if you read the newspaper you will find, they didn't even have the decency to give the renovating job for the welcome center to people here at home, nope they hired a contractor from out of the county to give the work to. People here in THIS county could have needed that work!!! So I say vote them out, one at a time from the top to the bottom, until we have some people working in these offices that are willing to do their job and have the ambition to make this county a better place!!!  (May 24, 2012 | post #10)

Well, I can respect a persons view and personal preferences...and I have enjoyed our conversation, as I do appreciate a good debate on occasion...however, I have to level with you, democrat, I am not...for all intense purposes, truly I am republican...but I will male exception when I feel like the opposing party has presented the best candidate or in this case, the best candidates for the position at hand...its actually something I take pretty seriously.  (May 21, 2012 | post #8)

Paty hack" and we been educated where?? Assuming we never got selected to participate in any spelling bee's? As for business knowledge, perhaps you need to do a little research as to the job responsibilities of the position Mr. Brooks currently holds, that would at least be a sensible place to start I would think. And as for Mr. Cauley, I'm sure he is a great person with a wealth of knowledge on how to further this county's development of becoming a nice little retirement community.  (May 20, 2012 | post #6)

Also, as for Mr. Jernigan, I'm sure you will before election time, as I know he has been going door to door throughout the county, in an attempt to meet and speak with every citizen. And I believe if given the chance, he will represent the people in this county very well.  (May 13, 2012 | post #4)

Funny, I can kind of understand your take on things, however at the same point in time, some of the most successful people I've ever seen, have been those who took the initiative to reinvent themselves in their careers, Ronnie is qualified, and I think there is something to be said for anybody that can build their life up, specialty to specialty...in my opinion one build upon the other and only serves to give a person a more rounded scope of knowledge, which can only help in whatever position one pursues. And truly, I think we all surely have the knowledge to know that Ronnie hasn't exactly just been recruited straight from his job as a band director...surely you are not in a job today that you only had the knowledge and qualifications to do 10-20 years ago...it's the person who doesn't have the ambition to advance that we need yo be weary of...  (May 13, 2012 | post #3)

Upcoming Mcnairy County Election. Who is everyone voting ...

Ronnie Brooks definitely has my vote!!! Assessor of Property, Keith Jernigan, hands down!!!! We need qualified people who ain't afraid of work. Mcnairy county is too far behind our surrounding counties in growth to afford another four years of deadbeats who either won't or just simply aint able to do the job!!!!  (May 12, 2012 | post #1)

Ronnie Brooks for County Mayor and Keith Jernigan for Assessor of Property. Two great men and qualified to do the jobs!!!! Mcnairy County can't afford another four years of zero growth, its time we start electing people who have the ambition to "work" for us and strive to make a difference!!!! Mcnairy County has the potential to be a thriving county, no excuse in this world for us to be soo far behind our surrounding counties in every sense of the word.  (May 12, 2012 | post #1)
