Any one in need of clean, broken concrete?

We are in the process of renovating a property here in La Porte and have broken out the sidewalks and steps. There is no steel in it. Most of it is about 4-6 inches thick, except for the steps. This would be good for erosion control for bayfront property. Free if you load it. Post here if interested. Thanks.  (May 26, 2012 | post #1)

Bullying at Lomax Jr. High

Bullies are eaily handled. I had one. He was alot bigger, stronger, and meaner than me. We I had enough of being intimidated and knocked around, I pulled his left ear almost clean of his head. I made it clear that if he bugged me or anyone again, I'd pull them both off. We got along okay after that. I saw him the other day in Deer Park, we shook hands, chatted a minute and then left on good terms. I couldn't help but smile noticing that left ear is still crooked. Parents, do something with your kids, if you kid is being an ass to someone, explain to them that backing a scared kid into a corner can be very dangerous. If my bully had come back after our incident, I had every intention of splitting his head with an axe handle. These bully problems start at home. If your kid is pushing others around, IT'S YOUR FAULT AND YOUR PROBLEM TO CORRECT. If you do nothing about your bully, there's a chance that they will scare or hurt a kid one time too often and then your bully will find out what hurt is all about. A scared kid that is pushed too far is as dangerous as a wounded animal pushed into a corner. Before I get off of my soapbox, Find out what your kids are up to. If they are not being good citizens, do what you can to change that. Explain that Karma thing. Thanks.  (Mar 9, 2011 | post #57)

tattoo shops

Tattoos are okay, in moderation. If you fly your "Freak Flag" high, then expected to be viewed as a freak. Take a page from the Yakuza in Japan. Their tats are the badge of honor among gangsters. But their tats are also covered by a short sleeved shirt. If I were a business owner or manager, I would not hire someone with neck to knuckle tats nor someone who looked like they fell down a flight of stairs with a tackle box. It kinda just looks convict to me. If you want tats, fine, but don't feel bad when you can't get a good job because you have Snuffy Smith cartoons on your forarms. I got into a pissing match recently with a Houston cop with a bunch of ink on his forarms (he was in short sleeves). He was demanding that I would respect the law (I jaywalked in downtown). He didn't take it well when I told him that he looked more like a convict than a lawman. Bottom line is "Look and act respectable if you want society to respect you".  (Mar 8, 2011 | post #17)

Where is the best meal in town for your dollar?

I will vouch for El Ranchero, great place, clean, friendly, and cozy.  (Mar 7, 2011 | post #36)

Shady River crime

I say we should convince Joe Horn to move to LaPorte and run for office.....Perhaps he would make a good mayor or police chief. He would have my vote.  (Mar 7, 2011 | post #18)

Shady River crime

Back to the topic here, we all need to get out and meet our neighbors and work together. Everyone on my block knows who and what belongs and doesn't belong. If something is askew at my place while I'm away, my phone rings with my neighbor asking if this person belongs. We watch out for each other. I say "Support your local vigilance committee." Once perps get the message that they will receive serious bodily harm for coveting someone elses belongings, that crap will stop. God Bless Joe Horn!  (Mar 7, 2011 | post #9)

Teacher/student arguments

Make the teacher's job a little easier....whoop the snot out of your kid when it's warranted. I forget who qouted it but "To raise a child without morals is to educate a menace to society". I'm not saying to abuse your kids, but give them a good tune-up when they need it. Doing this ensures that we as the human race are evolving for the better. Every "tune up" I got as a child/teenager was something I actually earned, they made me a better person.  (Mar 7, 2011 | post #44)

Teacher/student arguments

My wife and I are blessed with a well manered teenage son. However, he knows better than too argue, back talk, or disrespect adults. Especially his teachers. Part of that is because he is simply a good kid, part of it is because he doesn't want the wrath of God coming down on him when word gets home. It all starts with good parenting.  (Mar 7, 2011 | post #42)

Sneaking In?

If Speedy Taco re opens, we should hope that the kitchen gets cleaned. King's does a great job keeping a clean and sanitary operation, however the people who kept Speedy Taco (I won't mention names) were not into keeping the kitchen clean. I felt like I needed a shower after just walking through the kitchen.  (Mar 7, 2011 | post #5)

Pub and Billards on Main

I don't think the tattoo shop is such a great idea for Main St. Skate shop, OK that seems viable. I think it would be really nice if we could get an old style drive in. Not a Sonic but the real deal old style. If only I had the money, I would open one myself.  (Mar 6, 2011 | post #6)
