Three Vacaville males detained on robbery, conspiracy cha...

This took place in the Bentley Square gated community of Browns Valley. I know because I used to live in this community. People who think they are safer living in a gated community have a false sense of security. A San Francisco inspector/detective also lived in this community back in 2005. He was charged with rape, and he committed suicide in his home before the trial began. Just goes to show that you can choose your neighborhood, but you can NOT choose your neighbors or your neighbor's visitors.  (Jul 6, 2009 | post #1)

Good time for buying a home

Yeah, but just because someone is upside down on their house, doesn't mean they are behind on their payments... They still have a home to live in as long as they are making payments on time, irrespective of the home's value going up or down.  (Jul 4, 2008 | post #33)

Yes the article is just another unpaid advertisement for the realtors to pimp their wares. It doesn't matter if the market is hot, cold, stable, whatever.... realtors make money on buying and selling, period. Good info regarding new changes to the cancellation of debt when you do a short sale. There are conditions that have to be met when you do a short sale so you don't get taxed such as bankruptcy, insolvency, and so on.  (Jun 20, 2008 | post #9)

Unhappy with the way things are going

Amen Dan! How dare Vacaville try to bring in jobs which require a Bachelor's degree or higher!! (sarcasm). Knowledge is power and traveling expands your mental horizons. Reading other books than Bible is definitely a start. It is expensive to travel these days, but there are inexpensive ways to travel smaller distances so you can free your mind a bit. However I do agree with the letter writer that there are more important issues at hand than one retail store.  (Jun 15, 2008 | post #2)

Wedding crusher

I don't know how much can be done for the folks who they cashed their check before the bk filing. On the other hand, if they cashed checks after the bk filing those folks may have grounds to file with the da for fraud. This is a terrible situation involved, but for the newlyweds this will only make your union stronger. Good luck!  (Jun 14, 2008 | post #45)

By playing devils advocate: When did the Martinez's first realize that they would be closing their doors? Were they hoping that things would turn around? That is very common in human nature; however, there had to be a time frame ie. months, weeks , days when they knew that they would have to close the doors. I wonder did they pay the reporter advertising bill? Maybe this is why their story is headline on the internet? Just a thought.  (Jun 14, 2008 | post #15)

Maybe the contents of the business were leased or financed, in other words, everything had to be given back to the suppliers/vendors because Kathy and Mike did not own the equipment/content outright... therefore Mike and Kathy could not sell the content themselves for money to give back deposits. Very unfortunate for people to lose their deposits, but this economy really sucks. This is not first small business to close up shop recently (Otter Nature Store, Chandler Home Furnishings, Comp USA, Vacaville Flooring, Travis Credit Union Park, etc.) Some of these businesses were able to close with out keeping people's deposits and other businesses kept them/didn't give them back.  (Jun 14, 2008 | post #13)

Working to keep porn out of our community

Amen Jess. Controversy breeds success. There is no such thing as bad press. Secrets can't buy this kind of press/advertising. All the cliches are there. Seriously, yes, why is only ONE store being single out here?  (Jun 13, 2008 | post #12)

Tom, Thanks for your commons sense point of view about this issue. Too bad those of us in the silent majority can't get our way... so undemocratic  (Jun 8, 2008 | post #1)

Vacaville's Secrets: Market, time will tell

Amen. Once again the vocal minority has more influence than the silent majority... However this latest editorial finally brings a more rational point of view to The Reporter's print version.. a view many of us bloggers on here already have.  (Jun 5, 2008 | post #10)

Council to consider adult-oriented business moratorium to...

Does anyone know if this special meeting was in today's (Friday's) print version of "The Reporter" or "Daily Republic"? I wonder if folks on both sides of the issue had adequate notice of the meeting so everyone could show up and voice their opinion? Or was this some secret back door meeting to implement a moratorium?  (May 30, 2008 | post #8)

Adult store plan ignites concerns

It's ok for the city to approve more gas stations to be built which sell alcohol (ie directly across from Will C. Wood High), but if anything sex related wants to set up shop, the council shuts it down. Back in the 1990's, there was supposed to be a strip club open up on Monte Vista near where Taco Bell/Wells Fargo are in the Nugget/BBB shopping center. According to my wife, Pauline and the gang put a chokehold on it.  (May 30, 2008 | post #130)

Council to consider adult-oriented business moratorium to...

A special meeting??? Come on!! I guess this shows once again that the vocal minority is more powerful than the silent majority. This is so back-asswards and undemocratic. We need some new young blood on that city council!!  (May 30, 2008 | post #7)
