Hey Rose! Good to see you. My niece got Elf on the Shelf for Christmas and she loves it. She loves to put it in different places. She thinks it's hilarious when she puts it in the bathroom and one of us discovers it, lol. I hope all is well with you. :o) (Oct 6, 2013 | post #312738)
You stated Caligula married his sister. That's incorrect. He did not marry his sister. It's disputed whether or not he carried on incestuous relationships with any of his sister. (Oct 5, 2013 | post #312687)
I'm sorry, I misspoke when I said Germanicus. I meant Gemellus. (Oct 5, 2013 | post #312685)
There's a LOT of dispute as to whether or not Caligula had an incestuous relationships with his sisters. A lot of historians believe it to be untruths spread about by Caligula's dissenters. It's no secret that Caligula was nuttier than a bag of squirrel poop. While he was much loved when he became emperor, he took a very dark turn in his reign and it's believed that it had to do with illness, either Epilepsy or Syphilis. He became tyrannical, cruel and outright crazy which led to his assassination. It's also true that Drusilla was his favorite sister. She was the only one he trusted to the point where he had his cousin Germanicus, who at point was deemed his heir, put to death because he believed Germanicus was plotting against him. Drusilla was no longer considered heir once his daughter, Julia Drusilla, was born and Drusilla ended up dying of feverThere's no dispute about that. However, you mentioned Caligula and his sister being married and I just wanted to tell you that was incorrect. (Oct 5, 2013 | post #312684)
With all due respect, Ink. Caligula never married any of his sisters. He did have wives, one of whom died in childbirth, and the last one who was murdered, along with her child, after he was assassinated but none of them were of blood relation to him. (Oct 5, 2013 | post #312653)
John!! How are you? I hope all is well with you and yours. As far as my avatar, I never knew you were a gorgeous show dog, LMAO!! ;o) Anyways, I was doing a bit'o'research about attending gay marriages being a mortal sin and so far, I've found no official Catholic statement on it. It seems to be a very gray area. From what I've read, some people believe that attending such weddings, is a mortal sin. They believe that attending a gay wedding means they're condoning it and because the RCC believes homosexuality is wrong, they believe attendance is a sin. Then you have folks who attend such weddings out of love for the person(s) getting married. Kinda like "love the sinner, hate the sin" sort of deal and that wouldn't be considered a mortal sin. In short, there is no definitive answer. If you feel that God would disapprove of you attending such a wedding and that weighs heavy on your conscience then perhaps it's best you don't go. If you feel God would understand your love and compassion for the people involved and that He would not hold that against you, then perhaps it's best to go. Either way, it's a very personal spiritual decision and it seems there's no absolute right or wrong answer to it. (Sep 22, 2013 | post #311984)
Can you show me official proof of this? I'd appreciate it. (Sep 22, 2013 | post #311982)
Aged, my dear! How are you? I hope all is well. As far as Knit's claim, her answer, or non answer rather, was to ask my uncle. Considering he's not the one who's making the claim, it would be rather idiotic to ask him. The thing is, I'd hate to think she'd lie on the Roman Catholic Church and spread a fallacy, however, if she had proof that photographing a gay wedding is a mortal sin per the Vatican, she would've produced it. (Sep 22, 2013 | post #311981)
Why would I ask my uncle when *you* are the one making the assertion? Do not deflect. Again, do you have proof, per the Vatican, that photographing a gay wedding is a mortal sin? If so, please share. (Sep 22, 2013 | post #311979)
Can you please point out an official Catholic statement, per the Vatican, that says taking pictures at a gay wedding is a mortal sin? (Sep 22, 2013 | post #311947)
I've always found it interesting when some folks claim religious persecution in schools or claim that God is not allowed at school. I don't know about those folks but God is with me where ever I go as He's always in my heart. I went to Catholic grammar school and public high school. I never had a problem saying prayers at high school or saying grace before I ate lunch. Then again, I didn't pray out loud, as that's how I choose to pray, but either way, I never felt persecuted or that I wasn't allowed to worship God. Anyways, I hope all is well with you and I hope everyone has a great day. Football starts today so I'm waiting to see how the Bears do this season. God help us, LMAO!!! :o) (Sep 8, 2013 | post #310551)
Actually, showing dogs in conformation and obedience is not a business for me. I do not get paid to do so. Quite the contrary. It's a very expensive hobby for me but it is one I immensely enjoy so I don't mind dropping the money on it. For what it's worth, I have not bred any of my dogs. While they are of excellent quality, have impressive pedigrees and have had their health clearances(I'm talking beyond a basic vet check, I'm talking OFA, CERF and BAER testing), responsible breeding is a huge undertaking and I haven't the time to go that route. Not that I'm ruling it out, it's just not something I'm interested in doing at this point. Not only that, good responsible breeding is not a money maker. You're lucky if you break even. Anyways, I hope all is well with everyone. I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend! :o) (Aug 30, 2013 | post #309845)
I don't watch Friends but more than likely, if it was a hairless cat, it was a Sphynx. It's an actual breed. I wouldn't be surprised if they cost that much. Hell, I've paid damn near double that for dogs. Granted, we're talking about show quality dogs, as I show dogs on the side, but depending on the breed, pedigrees and location, I can see the price of some cat breeds being crazy high. And for what it's worth, if I were to get a Sphynx, I'd totally name it Cashmere or Fluffy, LMAO!! Anyways, I hope all is well with everyone. :o) http://www.cfa.org /Breeds/BreedsSthr uT/Sphynx.aspx (Aug 29, 2013 | post #309824)
