Prove there's a god.

The truth doesn't hurt, it is people that go out of their way to hurt others and justify it in a variety of ways. You use your personal religious beliefs and pick and choose some parts of the Bible and dismiss other in an effort to justify your own bigotry. No different than what the slave holders did aT THAT POINT OF OUR SHAMEFUL HISTORY WHERE THEY CHOSE THOSE PARTS OF THE BIBLE TO JUSTIFY THEIR CHOICE TO HAVE SLAVES. The cilture has now changed and to go back to a book written at that time by a preacher justifying slavery and glorify his words to return to that time period is as wrong as you wanting to hang on to the bigotry toward others you exhibit and it goes against the teaching of Jesus even if Paul later becan to teach judgement and hate again. That is not what Jesus taught.  (Jul 13, 2010 | post #164853)

Prove there's a god.

You continue to confuse the word of God with the words of men talking about God in a book. If you were really following those ancient customs of that culture there are many things you would find objectionable and infringing on YOUR personal freedom yet you continue to want to make other people live according to those ancient social codes of behavior and deny them the ability to be who they are which is homosexual. You do not have the right to impose your religious beliefs on another, you are to apply them only to yourself and your conduct.  (Jul 13, 2010 | post #164841)

OC I don't believe yelpingdog either, I don't believe she was miraculously cured of cancer without medical treatment and doubt she ever had it. She is a liar and ha proved it here, she is an annoying idiot too and her logic sucks as she ignores all the good Christian who have died of cancer in spite of faith and prayer. I don't understand why you waste your time trying to converse with her. No one reads this stuff except for whatever posters are on that particular tread and even then when one of us returns there is too much to bother reading to catch up so it seems intellect like yours is certainly wasted on the likes of arguing with her. Having to even scroll over her drival makes me not want to bother with this thread other than to say hi to you and the others I like here. Hope you have a good day, take care.  (Jun 15, 2010 | post #155563)

I don't know about that as I don't have any knowledge about it. There was only one Jewish man living in Isreal that I had in depth conversation with and he had spent a few years in the states himself and had not expressed anything negative about it.  (Jun 15, 2010 | post #155561)

I had nothing but positive experiences in Israel and I'm not Jewish. I found people to be friendly and helpful and someone around able to speak english or they would call someone over who did to help me. Ihave friends and family who have also traveled there and none had a negative exprience. Maybe they like southern Baptists better there? LOL  (Jun 15, 2010 | post #155548)

Weird

Poland to chemically castrate pedophiles

Big deal. It won't work, it was already tried in the U.S. at Walla Wslla decades ago. They go off the meds, impossible to keep track and supervise. Then physical castration was tried and also failed as it is an act of violence and they continued to harm children, the lack of an erect penis makes no difference. It is not testosterone causing the fixation, the lack of impulse control or the violence.  (Jun 9, 2010 | post #11)

Prove there's a god.

That isn't true, it is those who are religious that like to believe that people turn to God through desperation but it isn't true. I've seen Christians fearful about dying and going to hell and I've seen a couple of terminally ill athiests take it in stride so I know that is the fantasy of those who believe that they suffer more but it certainly seems it is the believers that suffer most. Now after death whom knows? I'm not certain that religion would matter at all. I believe you will be judged on your life and how you treated others and your flavor of religion won't 'save' you, that you will have to face punishment for what you did to harm another and the only way to change any of that is to make a difference in this life.  (Jun 8, 2010 | post #153342)

But you failed to notice that it wasn't just about religion though 'belief' requires the least logic, it was governments that allowed and encouraged the conflict for their own purposes.  (Jun 8, 2010 | post #153339)

Is homosexuality a sin?

Give me one where he said it wasn't. And don't quote Paul instead who never knew Jesus and keep in mind it was Peter than Jesus left in charge not Paul who robbed Peter to pay himself. Basically everything after the first three gospels was written by Paul and later church builders and some alterations were made to those first three.  (Jun 7, 2010 | post #20745)

Is homosexuality a sin?

I believe Paul was no different than many of today's evangelists who only build a tithe paying group for their own personal profit. I believe that because he went against so many of Jesus's teachings while fighting with Jesus's Jewish followers who actually had known him.  (Jun 7, 2010 | post #20744)

House votes to end 'don't ask, don't tell'

Homosexuality was never a 'cause' and doesn't make any sense except to those who want to believe that every 'fallen' nation is being punished by God like an Old Testament story. Sanitation was much better in the Roman empire than it was throughout Europe for many centuries afterwards with running water, sewers and tiles that are still used today but there was evidence that lead poisoning could be a factor. But I was referring specifically to Gibbons work as he is considered the first 'modern' historian using objectivity and primary sources over secondary.  (Jun 7, 2010 | post #1127)

Helen Thomas to Obama: Stay out of fights with Fox

There is no defense for her comments because they were nonsensical. To say Jews should 'go home' to Poland or Germany or elsewhere made no sense as though she suddenly was unaware of history not only of the persecution of Jews but where their homeland is and it certainly is not Europe. It is as though she 'forgot' how persecution and murder continued in those countries even after the war and helped lead to reestablishing Israel though certainly not without conflict or without injustices, yet the only solution is to move forward. It is unfortunate that her career came to this end as she was a role model for women for many years but it seems that some deep seated anti semitism on her part surfaced that is more visceral than simple opinion.  (Jun 7, 2010 | post #6)

Did you ever read any of Edward Gibbons Decline ands fall of the Roman empire? He blamed part of it on them hiring mercenary soldiers and part on Christianity. Ironic when you consider that the U.S. hires mercenaries to fight in the middle east starting with Iraq and then some want to keep soldiers out for being gay in the name of Christianity.  (Jun 7, 2010 | post #1125)

Is homosexuality a sin?

You could argue that according to Paul's opinion but Jesus made no such distinction. He taught celibacy was best for those devoting themselves to God, but made no distinction about those who did not choose celibacy. I believe when he talked about 'those who are born eunuch' he meant gays included but he did not condemn them. Jesus didn't condemn people like Paul did and he taught it isn't our place to judge others. So many follow Paul instead of Jesus, it is a real shame.  (Jun 7, 2010 | post #20737)

About 700 lkight years away, the Helix Nebula is an example of a planetary nebula, or 'planetary' formed at the end of a star's evolution. Gases from the star in the surrounding space appear, from our vantage point, as if we are looking down a helix structure. The remnant central stellar core, known as a planetary nebula nucleus or PNN, is destined to become a white dwarf star. The observed glow of the central star is so energetic that it causes the previously expelled gases to brightly fluoresce.
