Randall Lobello of Bensenville said he still plans to buy lottery tickets, despite the Illinois Lottery's announcement Wednesday that even more winners will be getting IOUs. "I do a lot of traveling; I would just jump to the border and go to Wisconsin," said Lobello, 47. "I used to buy lottery tickets in Illinois, but I'm not purchasing them anymore. Comment?

When I grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago in the 1960s and the 1970s, the state of Illinois was still a financial and industrial powerhouse. The Land of Lincoln had a low rate flat income tax, the property taxes were reasonable, the state ran budget surpluses, and Illinois was the home of such iconic mega-employers as Caterpillar, Sears Roebuck, and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. An Illinois Lottery Quick Pick winning ticket for $250,000 was purchased at the Marathon at 8001 North Skokie Boulevard in Skokie. The winner in Saturday night's Lucky Day Lotto drawing matched all five numbers - 01 - 14 - 16 - 39 - 45 - to win the total. Comment?
