    Now that Walgreens has purchased 1,932 Rite Aid stores and 3 distribution centers for $4.375 billion, they have announced a number of Rite Aid store closings in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Fiona Ortiz, Director of Financial Communications and CSR Reporting at Walgreens Boots Alliance, confirmed that Walgreens acquired 38 stores in the Triangle and that more than 20 of those will be closing.

    North Carolina ready for another shot

    As 2017 ended, Chinese tire manufacturer Triangle Tyre announced it would invest $580 million to build its first U.S. plant in Tarboro, N.C., creating 800 jobs at the eastern North Carolina site. That project followed the opening of Linamar Corp.'s $200 million aluminum die-casting plant in the state in partnership with Switzerland's GF Automotive.

    One of New Bern's longest-running Italian restaurants has joined the city's southern expansion with the opening of a new location at 3946 Dr. M.L. King Jr. Blvd. Paula's Pizza, a New Bern fixture since 1999, closed its former location on Red Robin Lane and opened for business at its new site, located opposite Tractor Supply Company, on June 29 after six months of construction work. According to owners Roberto and Sandy Quiñonez, after 20 years at one location the time was right to find a larger, more easily accessible location.
