Almost 300 teachers who had nearly 400 crowdfunding projects listed on the website Donors Choose as of this morning got a big surprise that was revealed at West Seattle's Highland Park Elementary : Google just "flash-funded" all King, Pierce, and Snohomish County teachers' projects on the site. One of those teachers, HPES kindergarten teacher Amanda Burke , got a visit from Mayor Murray , reps from DC and Google, and news-media reps, as part of the surprise announcement - here's our video capturing the moment: The "flash-funding" totaled $338,000. BNSF Railway Co., the largest unit at Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc., should improve fire-and-disaster preparedness as it ships more oil through a century-old tunnel in Seattle, emergency officials said. In an eight-page report released yesterday, Seattle's Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management called on the railroad to install communications, ventilation and fire-and- vapor suppression systems in the King Street Tunnel that runs underneath downtown. When trickery failed, a University District shoplifter with missing teeth and a box of alcohol turned to violence, punching an American Apparel employee in order to steal a calculator watch, according to the Seattle Police Department. According to the police report for the incident, the suspect came into the store in the 4300 block of University Way Northeast at 10 a.m. Friday and was immediately recognized by an employee.
