    Superfund site building razed

Demolition efforts began on Tuesday at a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] Superfund site on Sea Girt Avenue, the former location of White Swan Cleaners - a dry cleaning business responsible for leaking harmful pollutants into the soil and groundwater that created a toxic plume. In the late 1990s, the EPA confirmed the former location of White Swan Cleaners to be an area of groundwater contaminated with dry cleaning chemicals and their breakdown products: perchloroethylene [PCE], trichloroethene [TCE] and cis-1, 2-dichloroethylene [cis-1,2-DCE].
