After Hurricane Sandy hit Connecticut in 2012 and destroyed the Dock & Dine in Old Saybrook, restaurateur Jon Kodama has focused on rebuilding the iconic restaurant. The building, which overlooked the Connecticut River as it joins Long Island Sound, was razed, and Kodama set to work on designing the new building and securing permits and financing. Comment?

Amazon will hold a job fair at Windsor High School Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 7 p.m. Amazon.com Inc. announced plans in August 2013 to build a $50 million redemption center off Day Hill Road in Windsor and hire 500 people into full-time and part-time jobs. The company has said it plans to hire more than 6,000 employees at 19 fulfillment centers around the country. Comment?

Many of us maintain our yards partly for the health and enjoyment of our pets. It seems ironic that lawn and garden hazards formed more than 16 percent of calls to the Animal Poison Control Center at the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last year. Comment?

High school seniors from Clinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Hampton, Higganum, Killingly, Middletown, Moodus, Old Saybrook, Portland, and Westbrook were recognized as the state's top scholar-athletes at the 2015 Connecticut Association of Schools / Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Banquet sponsored by McDonald's. This year, McDonald's Brand Ambassador John Cisna, the Iowa high school teacher who lost nearly 60 pounds eating only at McDonald's served as the guest speaker at the awards banquet. Comment?
