The demise of bankrupt Hastings Entertainment, including the impending closure of stores in Wenatchee and Moses Lake, drew a slew of comments on the Wenatchee World Facebook page from residents saddened to see it go and hopeful for something new. Media retailer Hastings was sold Wednesday at auction by a federal bankruptcy court in Delaware to a partnership expert in liquidating failing companies. Comment?

Hastings Entertainment, which operates stores in Richland, Wenatchee, Moses Lake and Spokane, is being sold to a liquidation partnership that will shut all stores this fall. Assets of the bankrupt books-music-DVD retailer and associated companies will be bought by a partnership of two investment companies, which emerged as the successful bidders in a bankruptcy auction Wednesday. Comment?

The company, which filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 14, will soon begin a liquidation process that includes an "everything must go" sale through October 31. According to Amarillbo Globe-News, the Texas based company will close on a store-by-store basis. Any Hasting store can close at any time, but only after giving employees a seven-day notice, and the sale of all merchandise must be complete by October 31. Spokane is home to three locations, while Coeur d'Alene has one. Comment?

At least two bidders would compete for assets of Hastings Entertainment in an auction scheduled to take place Wednesday in a federal bankruptcy court in Delaware, a Texas newspaper has reported. By 7 p.m. Wednesday , however, no results of the auction had been made available, and the fate of Hastings stores in Wenatchee and Moses Lake remained undisclosed. Comment?
