Twenty-five years ago Lupie's original sign disappeared during Hurricane Hugo, but last week Lupie's Cafe employees recovered the broken sign in Matthews, leading to questions about how it got there. A friend of one of the employees at the Monroe Road restaurant spotted the sign while jogging on the Matthews greenway about 10 miles away from the cafe and brought the sign in to the cafe. Comment?

Harris Teeter supermarket will donate nearly $64,000 to two charities set up in the wake of the June 17 shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Two checks, each for $31,865.80, will be presented to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund and Lowcountry Ministries at 10 a.m. Aug. 25 at the supermarket at 290 East Bay St. in downtown Charleston. Comment?

Publix Super Markets didn't jump on the Harris Teeter buyout, but that doesn't mean it can't push its way into rival territory. Lakeland-based Publix said last week that it has a deal to buy seven grocery stores owned by Bi-Lo Holdings LLC, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reports . Comment?
