Once again, the annual 4th of July fireworks show will take place on the East River, but this year, the 25-minute Macy's spectacular will shoot off from two locations, not just one. A double barge will be placed just south of the Brooklyn Bridge , around the same area as last year's show, and four additional barges will sit between East 23rd and East 42nd Streets , offering prime views to north Brooklyn, Long Island City, and Midtown East. Forest City Ratner and partner Greenland USA, developers of Brooklyn mega-project Pacific Park, unveiled the plans for an eight-acre park in the development. The first phase of the park, located between Carlton and Vanderbilt avenues and Dean and Atlantic streets, is slated to open next summer, coinciding with the completion of 278-unit condo building 550 Vanderbilt and 298-unit affordable housing building 535 Carlton Avenue, the New York Daily News reported. Barneys New York, a company famously synonymous with Midtown Manhattan, moved a small part of its operations to Long Island City. The department-store chain has signed a 10,000-square-foot manufacturing-space and office lease for its visual department at Plaxall Properties' 5-25 46th Avenue, said Plaxall managing director Paula Kirby at the LIC Summit held at the Museum of the Moving Image Asking rents at the three-story, roughly 46,000-square-foot commercial building, which houses the LIC Flea & Food market on the ground floor, are at $35 per square foot, according to Plaxall's website. New York City's Mayor Bill de Blasio has signed a bill that requires side guards on 10,000 city and private refuse trucks by 2024 to reduce deaths and serious injuries during collisions with passengers. The latest batch of reports from around the industry found that rent prices across the city were down slightly in May and the average price for an apartment in Manhattan's top condominium buildings climbed 14 percent year-over-year.
