A building boom has hit the valley but the "contractors'' rolling up their sleeves for these projects are volunteers constructing playhouses for children in need. Youngsters from Alameda, Contra Costa and Santa Clara counties, many of them in difficult circumstances, are receiving the houses courtesy of a building program that brings together little ones who want playhouses with community members who want to provide them.
