Many stores, including Target, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Toys "R" Us, began their Black Friday doorbuster deals at 5 or 6 p.m. Thursday night, but traffic was drastically diminished compared to years past on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News. The majority of shoppers didn't begin lining up at the Newport News Target store until about 4 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., about 150 people had joined in, dramatically fewer than the heights that the Black Friday holiday saw two or three years ago. RealtyTrac, a California-based firm that tracks residential realty trends across the country, recorded 181 homes in Newport News, Hampton, York County and James City County that either faced foreclosure or received notices of pending foreclosure in October. That's up 26.6 percent from 143 distressed homes posted across the Peninsula in October 2014, according to the report. Comment?
