It was a long-time coming, some 10 months, but the registered nurses and some 20 other healthcare professionals at Brooks Memorial Hospital finally have a new contract. On Monday at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator in Dunkirk, the union members voted unanimously to accept the terms negotiated by their union team and hospital representatives. Comment?

After working without a contract in place for the past 10 months, an agreement between Brooks Memorial Hospital and its nurses union is now on the cusp of approval. Members of the New York State Nurses Association bargaining unit at the Dunkirk hospital will vote on a tentative contract extension Monday at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator from 6 a.m. until around 8:30 p.m. The four-year extension, if approved, will last until July 2018. With people relying heavily on the Internet and their smartphones now more than ever, the city of Dunkirk Police Department is upping the ante when it comes to the community's assistance in reporting suspicious activity. The city's police force introduced two new crime-awareness initiatives - a partnership with the free, neighborhood-centric social network Nextdoor.com and a Dog Walker Watch awareness program - on Wednesday during a news conference at the Dunkirk Senior Center. Greenhouse Growers increasingly use supplemental lighting to grow crops and have found that LEDs are the smartest choice for that purpose. A just-released survey, conducted by Greenhouse Grower magazine in February 2015, shows growers trust LumiGrow to provide those LEDs. Comment?
