Since the start of 2015, three Baton Rouge area businesses-Quarters in Baton Rouge, Laguna Beach Daiquiris in Denham Springs and Moonlight Inn in French Settlement-have been slapped with suits for allegedly playing copyrighted music without paying licensing fees. details in a featured from its current issue, federal copyright law requires bars, restaurants and any other business that plays copyrighted music of any kind to pay music licensing fees to performance rights organizations such as BMI, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and the Society of European Stage Authors and Composers. Store manager Splendid Galloway, 23, sends a fax for a customer Wednesday at the UPS Store in Denham Springs. Galloway and her husband bought a fax machine, computer and some folding tables to get their flood-damaged business going again as their landlord works to restore the shopping center it occupies. Flooding of Denham Springs Junior High moved the Sister Squad, a new organization of all girls attending Grace Community Junior High, in Tyler, to launch a book drive for the library of the South Louisiana school that lost all of its books in the disaster. Five to six feet of water inundated Denham Springs Junior High, one of 15 schools flooded. Comment?
