Just in time for Thanksgiving, a new Publix grocery store is opening Saturday morning in south DeLand in the Country Club Corners shopping center at 2431 S. Woodland Blvd. The 53,785-square-foot store will replace a smaller, older Publix across the street that is closing Friday at 7 p.m. The old, approximately 42,000-square-foot store, at 2410 S. Woodland Blvd., was built in 1993 and is the anchor tenant at a retail complex called Southpointe Commons. The News-Journal was unable to reach a spokesperson for the South Florida company that owns Southpointe Commons as to what will become of the vacated space. Comment?
