Wendel, a French-based investment firm, announced Tuesday it will pay New York-based Blackstone Group $1.67 billion to acquire Conshohocken, Pa.-based AlliedBarton Security Services, one of the largest suppliers of security guards in the country. The deal will give Wendel an equity investment of about $670 million, or a 96 percent ownership stake, in AlliedBarton, which has more than 60,000 employees throughout the nation, according to company statement. On June 12, New York buyout firm Centre Lane Partners agreed to buy Conshohocken- based Saladworks for $16.9 million and to invest up to $2 million in updates for the 108-store chain. On June 17, local investors agreed to pump $20 million into Philadelphia-based Honeygrow , plus $5 million to buy out earlier backers. Comment?

Ikea's U.S. division, based in Conshohocken, is raising its minimum wage for the second year in a row as the Swedish ready-to-assemble furniture chain looks to improve its relations with workers and reduce worker turnover. Starting Jan. 1, Ikea's average minimum hourly wage will increase to $11.87, which is $4.62 above the current federal wage and marks a $1.11 increase, or 10 percent, from this year's average minimum pay. A New York appellate court has found an insurance agency liable for $220,000 in fraudulent workers compensation premium payments a company paid at the instruction of one of its former agents. In a decision published last week, the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division's 4th Judicial Department in Rochester said the Conshohocken, Pennsylvania-based Norman-Spencer McKernan Inc. agency was responsible for the premiums paid from December 2005 to December 2006 by a unit of Greensboro, North Carolina-based Regency Oaks Corp., a professional employer organization.
