American Legion baseball fans were treated to both a good old-fashioned pitcher's duel and an extra-inning game in the Region 8 Tournament opener Thursday at Don Schaly Stadium. When the dust finally settled in the bottom of the 10th frame, tourney host Beverly/Lowell Post 389/750 came up short, dropping a 3-2 decision to Zanesville Post 29. "Their pitcher pitched a helluva game," said BevLow skipper Todd Engle, "and ours threw like he's been throwing all season." Comment?

But it's a new season, now, with the Region 8 tournament scheduled to begin at Don Schaly Stadium in Marietta today at 4 p.m. Beverly/Lowell , the defending champion, takes on Zanesville in the opener with St. Clairsville Post 159 facing Cambridge Post 84 in the nightcap. This is a double-elimination tournament, and at stake will be a berth in the American Legion state tournament at Beavers Field in Lancaster July 29-Aug. 2.
