    WILSON On a night where nothing came easy, Rocky Mount High was able to find a way to win a game it needed. The Gryphons overcame bad break after bad break to beat Wilson Hunt, 31-14, on Friday behind two rushing touchdowns from Joshua Carter and an interception return from Rashawn Harris.

    In a back and forth affair that featured nearly 900 yards of total offense and 77 combined points, it seemed only fitting that a late defensive stand would decide the outcome of Friday's Big East Conference opener between Southern Nash and Wilson Fike. The homestanding Firebirds, backed by a boisterous, rain-soaked crowd, stopped the Golden Demons and secured the Firebirds' 42-35 upset victory.
