After close calls in the state quarterfinals and semifinals, it was back to winning by landslide for Loyola Academy's football team on Saturday night. The Ramblers wrapped up a perfect season, finishing 14-0 after a 41-0 victory over Marist in the Class 8A state championship game at NIU's Huskie Stadium on Saturday night. Comment?

The Pirates, who were looking to advance to a football state title game for the first time since 1994, came up a bit short, bowing out against top-seeded Loyola Academy 24-22 in the Class 8A semifinals in Palatine. "I am very proud of the season and very proud of their effort tonight," said Palatine coach Rick Splitt, whose 13th-seeded Pirates finished the season with a 10-3 mark. Comment?

It was Game On at Palatine on Saturday in spite of a near-record snowfall of more than 11 inches which blanketed Chic Anderson Field at Palatine High School on Saturday before the Class 8A state semifinal football game between Palatine and visiting Loyola Academy of Wilmette. But thanks to yeoman efforts by the Palatine staff, community volunteers and members of the District 211 administration, the game was not canceled. Comment?
