    Naperville Central still alone atop DVC

    Naperville Central coach Andy Nussbaum was so impressed with Wheaton North on Saturday, it made him even more happy when he thought of his own girls basketball team. The Falcons did all they could against the Redhawks before Naperville Central won 57-49 on senior day at Wheaton North.

    Neuqua Valley defense stops WW South

    Like an iceberg, you don't see 80 percent of a basketball team's performance, namely the things that take place at practice that, hopefully, turn into what is on display on the court. Anyone who's seen Neuqua Valley play over the past week can guess what the emphasis has been behind closed doors -- a commitment to defense.

    McGowen scores 34, spurs Wheaton North comeback

    Just when it looked like Metea Valley's Matt Helwig may have hit the biggest shot of the night, Wheaton North's Rowan McGowen answered with a huge 3-pointer in overtime, and the Falcons star still had more magic up his sleeve. Helwig's 3-pointer gave the host Mustangs a 4-point lead with 1:22 left in overtime, and after a timeout, everyone in the gym expected McGowen to get the ball.

    It's been 10 victories and nearly two months since Naperville North's boys basketball team last saw Wheaton North. The Huskies avenged their lone DuPage Valley Conference loss and extended their lead atop the standings with Tuesday's 67-56 road victory over Wheaton North.

    Glenbard West makes sure it's one and done

    Rallying from a 10-point deficit heading to the fourth quarter, Glenbard West stormed to a 64-52 West Suburban Silver victory over Hinsdale Central in front of a packed house in Glen Ellyn. Glenbard West, which suffered a last-second loss to Wheaton North on Friday, dominated the final eight minutes to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time.

    St. Francis survives against Montini

    Getting Montini in position to win or tie, with 22.8 seconds to play freshman Raymond Dennis earned the Broncos possession on a held ball, trailing St. Francis by 2. Montini ran the clock, attacked, and had three chances at a tying basket. None dropped and St. Francis won the Chicago Catholic League North Division game, 61-59 in Wheaton.

    For the second time in a month, Naperville North's junior guard knocked down a game-winning buzzer-beating shot. This time it came in overtime as the Huskies grabbed Saturday's key DuPage Valley Conference victory over Wheaton Warrenville South.

    Red-hot Naperville Central draws even in DVC

    Naperville Central opened Tuesday night's girls basketball game at Metea Valley like they were fighting for first place for the DuPage Valley Conference championship. The Redhawks scored 40 points in the first half on their way to a 71-57 victory that put them atop the DVC along with Wheaton Warrenville South.

    Big third quarter lifts WW South past Wheaton North

    The perfect combination of effort and execution came together at the perfect time for Wheaton Warrenville South's boys basketball team. A third-quarter explosion powered the Tigers to Tuesday's 51-35 DuPage Valley Conference cross-town victory at Wheaton North, a dominant performance that avenged a home loss to the Falcons in early December.
