    Wheaton College, North Central win CCIW tourneys

    The Wheaton College women's basketball team had misfired on all nine 3-point field-goal attempts Saturday in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament championship game. The Wheaton College senior drained the only 3-pointer the Thunder could convert with 2:23 to play to slice the Illinois Wesleyan lead to a single point.

    Wheaton North uses defense to defeat Schaumburg

    The Falcons, seeded second in the Class 4A Glenbard West sectional, put forth another strong scoring performance, but an equally strong defense kept Schaumburg's talented offense in check. It was the Falcons' first girls basketball regional title since 2013.

    St. Francis can't cool off Sycamore

    On a night when the shots just wouldn't fall, the St. Francis girls basketball team could have thrown in the towel early, especially while Sycamore sharpshooter Kate Majerus was putting on a shooting clinic early. But this year's Spartans, who fought hard to turn around their season and win 17 games heading into Friday's Class 3A regional title game at Wheaton Academy, had too much heart to go down without a fight.

    An accidental coach, Harris became a Naperville legend

    Growing up a Hoosier in Winamac, the seat of Pulaski County but still small-town Indiana, Harris' next door neighbor was a man named Joe Heath, who coached basketball at the local high school. Since he began instructing students in 1967 as a 20-year-old Indiana University grad at then all-male Culver Academy an hour south of Notre Dame, Harris' winning personality, teamwork and, yes, academics and analysis resulted in a decorated, 50-year coaching career.
