Girl power: After an errant shot hit the top of the backboard and dropped down, a basketball was stuck on the backside of the standard during last Monday's Ken Peddy Windmill City Classic game between host Batavia and Wheaton Warrenville South. Batavia senior Canaan Coffey retrieved another ball and attempted to dislodge the first basketball from its position. Comment?

After winning their first North Suburban Conference championship in school history last winter, it looks like the Stevenson wrestling team is picking up where it left off after a strong start to the season this weekend at Barrington. Marmion was the class of the 27-team field at the 25th Moore/Prettyman Wrestling Invitational Saturday with 265.5 points while Lyons was a distant second with 211.5 points. Comment?

On Saturday the Wheaton College football team faces an opponent with nine Division III title-game appearances in the past 10 seasons. "This isn't like our kids have got to come up and do things they aren't physically capable of," said Thunder coach Mike Swider, whose 11-0 squad hosts two-time defending Division III national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater at noon Saturday. Seniors Eric Rasch and Matt Dacy-Seijo combined for 37 points to help lead Wheaton Warrenville South's basketball team to a 55-46 victory over Batavia in Monday night's opening of the 40th annual Ken Peddy Windmill City Classic in Batavia. Rasch scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the first half while Dacy-Seijo collected 5 of his 13 points from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter as the Tigers pulled away down the stretch. When an injury thrust Northern Illinois freshman quarterback Ryan Graham into the starting lineup two weeks ago, his father, Dan, admitted his mind immediately raced ahead to Wednesday night. This is Huskie Stadium hysteria for Dan and Robin Graham as the young men they raised oppose each other in significant roles when NIU is host to Western Michigan in a game between two teams tied for the Mid-American Conference West lead.
